Dyno-racing can be perceiving. A factor that will come into play in the real world is the weight difference.
You're also comparing a slightly modified 335i to a bone stock M3. The weather condition is also cooler for the 335i, which makes a big difference for turbo'd cars. Just a question though, how come the numbers for the 335i seems a bit low? Especially for a non stock one? |

Two problems... You dont have an LSD and M3 tires are wider... So in a simple drag race the M3 will beat you off the dig and you will probably cross the line at the same time in a 1/4 mile race... Around a track an M3 will rape you... So do you want to retract your statement...

Looks like he stopped the dyno pull at 6.4K. Makes little since when the M3s rated peak HP is at 7.9K

Interesting, nevertheless, to see how much more torque and consequently horsepower the 335i has in the lower rpm range, where 90% of daily driving occurs.

I think that dynograph is the shit (the bad kind, not the good 'da shiz')
Look at the numbers for the M3, wtf? there's no hp and tq below 3,000 rpm? so in an E46 M3, you would step on the gas, *wait*, *nothing nothing*, 3,000 rpm, *bam* goes

Pretty sure he was using sarcasm though, looking at the numbers the torque of the 335 is impressive but I don't think without an LSD that the 335 can put it down effectively.

Oh geez, here we go again. The fact of the matter is the two cars accelerate nearly identically. And numerous track tests (even at the Ring) have shown the M3 only beats the 335i by a small margin (most of that can simply be attributed to the crappy stock runflat tires the 335i has). The E90/92 chassis has simply been improved to higher levels than the outgoing M3's. Is this really a surprise? Would BMW really make a new chassis that's no better or worse than the outgoing chassis? The 335i and E46 M3 is a driver's race no matter how you slice it (drag racing, or at a track) Driver's being equal there is a SLIGHT edge to the M3 stock for stock. But simply changing tires on the 335i shifts that slight edge to the 335i. It's not a big deal. Heck $8-9K in mods to a 335i Coupe is going to be all that's needed to give the upcoming E92 M3 all it can handle, and still be thousands less than what the E92 M3 is going to sell for. |

4.8 sec 0-60 effective enough for you? With an additional $1300 we are talking sub 4.5 sec and 13 flat 1/4 mile. 60' times under 2 secs. I'd say that's pretty effective.

Bottom line is..........and I believe a lot of other members would agree that they'd rather have an "M" over the 335i sedan........
Now the 335i coupe.........that's a different story............ |

Sedan Coupe...doesn't matter. They have virtually identical performance numbers. The sedan weighs 25 lbs more I think. No difference. As far as manual/step goes I think you will find that most people are getting better launches with the step. In manual mode (step) the trans can shift a lot faster than most people can something like 100 ms or so and there is only 2% hp loss through the step. I think you should save that SLAP for yourself!

There is NO difference performance wise. How many times would you like me to repeat that. Now if you prefer the coupe for aesthetic reasons cool but if you are buying the coupe over the sedan for performance than you haven't done your homework.
