my new e92 and comparison to S60R
Hey guys,
Just joined here and wanted to say hello! I'll be around a lot I fear......I cant help it . I picked up my e92 from a private seller in NH.....1500 miles on it and I got it for 41k. He rarely used it, bought it in January and now sold it......his new 997 C4S cabriolet is coming in and he needed a "stopgap" car in the meantime. Must be nice. Nice for me at least! Anyway, love the car, worried about the fuel pump and cant wait to start modding. I'm coming from a long line of cars. I'm 26 and have owned my fair share already. Best car I've ever had was my pro-touring, unrestored, '69 Camaro SS which I lost 4 years ago in a garage fire......broke my heart and still does. (I'll post pics if you want) I've also had a Volvo C70 HPT coupe (the 335 styling reminds me of the C70), Volvo S60 T5 w/ lots of Heico tuning bits, a highly modded Volvo S60R w/ custom parts galore, '06 Lexus GS430, '07 Camry Hybrid (yawn), and now the 335. Also had a few trucks and jeeps thrown in there. I love the 335 in many ways and I'm still getting used to it. The only thing that bugs me is the fuel pump issue and the lack of an LSD.....what was BMW thinking. 1 legged burnouts FTL. Here is a link I posted on swedespeed comparing the 335 to my old R (totalled thanks to a deer christmas night '05 ) http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=77262 And here is a pic of the new car....I'll post many more once the car is clean again. Stupid rain.

So, I read your comparison but couldn't quite understand whether you like your e92 better than s60R or the other way around. I had a chance to test drive s60r manual only once for about 15 minutes. All I remember was that it did not feel faster than my former almost stock Legacy GT (2.5 turbo) and that the car felt very isolated from the road. I also agree that the seats were very comfortable.

Congratulations! The handling of the BMW compared to Volvo is just wonderful!

Welcome aboard. Looks like you're well versed on using the forum so no need to elaborate. Look forward to your contributions.

Hi Sniz.
Another former R owner here, mine was a V70, bone stock. Totalled on the 5 freeway when I was rear ended in traffic (Gotta give credit to that Volvo safety, especially the WHIPS thingie). Good comparison. Loved my R, but it needed some help in the handling department. Springs and iPD's swaybars probably would have improved it, but not quite elevated it to BMW standards. Waiting on an E90 335 now (at the Preparation Center! Woohoo!) in the best color (Montego Blue). I will miss the seats in the R - made a seven-hour drive feel like nothing - but can't wait for my 335. After my last two cars being AWD, I'm looking forward to joining the RWD club again - but like you, will probably wish for an LSD. Great looking car. Enjoy it. Richard |

Very nice write up.....
Sonic Blue S60R was my 1st choice and 335 was my 2nd..... But for some reason I ended up with a 335.... My heart still skips a beat when / if I see a Sonic Blue R :-) BTW, 335 has the same kind of bi-xenons as the R ..... (similar set up)..... the lights just aim higher when you want the brights on ...... just like R.

Sonic Blue R's are beautiful! To elaborate, my former R was not stock, had approx. 80hp over stock and a boatload more torque. It was a tuner development car that had parts that never made it to production like massaged turbo, intercooler, ceramic race downpipe, and a full custom ecu tuned for all the parts. It wasnt a normal R. Here is the car. And here is my old Camaro.....RIP. As to which one I like better....give me time. The verdict is still out, i'm comparing stock to modified so let me put some mods on the 335, I think I know which way I'll lean.

My wife used to have a C70 convertible. I wasn't a big fan, but I do miss those amazing seats.

Beautiful car, I actually wanted the begie interio with Montego blue too, but the only way to get that would have been ordering it. So I got the Montego blue with gray instead, and surprisingly I love that combo too.
Great comparo on the 335 vs. s60R! I never thought there was much of an aftermarket for the R comparing to other brands, so didn't even lurk on swedespeed much. I still like driving my 06 R, since I am just getting used to RWD after driving AWD cars for the last 15 years. While the seats are softer and plusher in the R, I actually prefer my 335's firmer and more adjustable seat. The lumbar on the 335 in my opinion provides more support than the R. Anyways, glad to see a fellow R owner on this board. |
