Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and thought I'd join to get some valuable input from those who might have been somewhere along the same situation as mine. I currently own a 2010 Mazda RX-8 R3 and I'm looking to trade it in. I realize after that a coupe isnt for me and got to know the rx8 a little better. Great car, again just not for me. I just dont appreciate the lack of power it has for the gas and oil it drinks.

Anyways, I'm looking into getting a used 335i xdrive. I was also looking to do some research on the work I would like to do to it before I would do the purchase. I'm looking to change the dash trim, tint the tail lights, tint the windows, change the rims, intake, and either get it chipped or tuned.

Please I would greatly appreciate your opinions and suggestions and if you have pics to post to show me some examples of what I'm looking to do that would be awesome!

Are you planning on getting a sedan? or a coupe? If you get a sedan, try to aim for LCI (2009+) and if they have the M tech option, it's a MAJOR plus. You'll have taller gears and a nicer body kit, lowered suspension and a few other nice features.Oh and also higher top speed . But i'm not too sure if Xi's come with that package though

Im planning on getting the sedan and I believe it says in the link I posted before of the 2009 335i xdrive has the m package or at least it says so in the description.

I do have a question though. Is it really that costly to maintain a BMW? I'm looking at a 2012 gti or golf R in the mean time whenever they come out and I do understand they are both different from the BMW but I am trying to look at the picture as a whole. The purchase of the gti and maintenance costs v.s. the BMW and maintenance costs. For example I heard it can cost up to $200 for an oil change from a friend who is a BMW fan boy and is shopping for a BMW himself.

To me its a no brainer. I would get the 335 I posted earlier from cars.com but I don't want anything to bite me in the rear end down the line.

Again, I greatly appreciate anybody's and everybody's input on this please!

Honestly its mostly the newer bmws which cost alot to maintain but if you buy a bmw itll have warrenty til 50k miles or 4 years so youll be set for a good amount of time. But an oil change would cost alot if you do it at the stealership, when i got a bew clutch they charged me 4k and my friend foun a local specialist that did it for only 1k so theres a major difference

^^^^^ hahahahaha that's what i'm saying!!!! it's worth it more when you buy an older possibly an e46 it has alot more room to play in the engine

haha thats true, I just dont know Im torn all over the place. Theres a total of 3 cars I am currently looking at and theyre all great but Im trying to look at the cons to see which is better off. So here they are:

2011/2012 gti: front wheel drive...dont know how well it will be in the snow

2011 sti: costly and not as refined as the gti but not bad at all in my books

I like all 3 of these cars equally but those are the issues I have with each that keeps me from going 100% for one of them. However I can see myself keeping the gti or the bmw longer than I would the sti so thats also being factored in.

wellllll if you're planning on getting the gti it'll be better to get an audi instead for it is awd and really good in the snow.
An sti isn't at all half bad, great all around car
335xi not too sure about it but it is bi-turbo, you might have to be more careful on maintaining it though. Alot more electronic possible problems, but is a good milestone between racing and luxury but alot less things to do to it as far as mods go. but a simple thing as ecu flash will gain it around 10+ hp alone

I have the mtech package as well and trust me, taller gears and better suspension reallllyyyy sways you towards it. Just a mere test drive will make you want the car hahaha that's how i got persuaded into my car haha every time you step into your car you'll want to stomp on the gas to feel the ecstasy from the speed of the car. All I want you to do is just take it for a drive, and respond back with your 100% feedback from the car as far as performance, handling, and comfort of the car. You'll see exactly what i mean

alright sounds good, hope to hear from you soon. i'm not gonna lie though the sti does have alot of torque and you'll definitely feel it and the interior isn't half bad either, it'll be a hard choice but i hope you just have the best of luck and fun with your choice
