Yes thats alright. I get around 270 miles a tank. I wait till its about 35miles left or it tells me.
I live in Miami, with 50:50 city/highway. A lot fo the time, the highway is slower than the city driving... |

15.5ish mpg. 93 octane, city driving, 2400 miles. I really don't drive hard at all. I guess my engine is making more power so it's consuming more gas (hehe, that's what I like to tell myself everytime I'm shelling out 40 bucks at the pump).

I have 700 miles on the odometer and I'm getting about 25 miles to the gallon on average. This is a combination (50/50) of city and "highway" driving here in the U.K. I typically put my foot into it until I reach highway speed....then keep it under 60mph. I did obey the "less than 4500 RPM" until about 20 miles ago...FYI

OMG guys, please please talk about specific speeds in association with your MPG. Otherwise it is a completely meaningless discussion. (Some people are, thank goodness. RPM is actually the most meaningful thing... especially RPM in lower gears, where wind resistance is low.)
For example, a 335i should get something like 31 mpg @ 70 mph, or 27 mpg @ 80 mph on a level road. I haven't yet figured out how to get a reasonable consistent reliable measure for "consumption under load" -- any bright ideas? You could reset the average MPG thing and go full throttle till 100 mph and compete numbers, but I feel like there will be a lot of error depending on when exactly you start afte resetting the MPG counter. |

i cannot figure out why my mpg sucks so much. i am getting about 20 mpg. I have an e92 328i with almost 1400 miles on it. 6 speed and 90% city driving. I don't drive that fast either...

That would be about right for 50/50 city/highway driving. At least in my neck of the woods.

I don't have my car yet so . . . In Germany while carefully observing the break-in and doing a decent mix of autobahn travel and backroad through the Alps the car was telling me that I was getting around 24.5mpg. I handed it off to Harms with 257 miles on it though so at this point I think my statistic is meaningless. Except for a short high speed stint on the autobahn I was pretty much babying it anyway.
How close is the in-car computer compared to doing your own calculations at the pump using the trip odometer? I always calculated it myself based on the amount of miles on the trip odometer divided by the number of gallons I have to use to fill the tank. Obviously this is an average based on a mix of city and highway. If I'm going on a reasonably long interstate journey without traffic I reset it to see what the "ideal" MPG is cruising between 75mph and 80mph. I never needed to fill up before dropping the car off so I have no idea.

335i sedan 6mt ~ 5500 miles.
Avg 19-20 mpg (50/50) per tank. I find the avg mpg guage is high by about 1 mpg but that's measuring the last 8 miles and I calculate the avg at each fill up, so that could explain the discrepancy. |
