It's days like this you are glad you own a BMW.

Since I bought my car last year I've really not put it to good use.

The same old city travels and the same 140 mile motorway journey every 2nd weekend with the occasional short blast in between.

Without any planning at the weekend we jumped in the car and set off with nowhere in mind.

Left Aberdeen and ended up in Aviemore. Some really excellent roads with few other cars on the road.

Managed to get a room in The McDonald Highland Hotel on Saturday where we enjoyed the good weather, the beer garden and quite a few samples of whisky later on.

Another 2.5 hours driving on Sunday when the lighting was very moody.

Just wished I had planned better and took a good camera. I only had my iphone and was too busy to take more than a few pictures.

Such a nice part of the country. Makes the drive even more worthwhile.

When Scotland does become independent I'd like to apply for political asylum.

High, what sort of MPG did you get from the 335i?

I've not even looked. It's probably not as bad as you think.

Had stages of driving a little quicker and times just cruising at low speeds to admire the scenary.

Since the injectors were done the other week my fuel consumption has improved a lot.

Last week i did about 450 miles with a combination of a fair amount of motorway miles, town driving and toying around it was showing an average of 29.7MPG which is easily a record for me.

OP: Looks like a fantastic weekend!

@Vaheed1: If you drive a 335i, it's not about the MPG. It's actually surprising how good it is on a motorway, averaging over 30 at some points. Take it for a bit of fun on a B-road, and watch it go into single digits!

Aviemore is probably the most beautiful place on earth. The West Highland Zoo is really worth a visit, and it does have the best view in Scotland.
Just wouldn't wanna take mine up there in winter, even my 4x4, on winter tyres, with locked diffs, struggled at time during last winter, skiing is awesome though.

Might have to do an nice long journey up there soon, not took the car on a proper (non work related) run yet.

There should be more road trip posts on this forum, especially now it is summer.

I think we all need a few good moment posts instead of the moans we make about known faults, m sport v's se, if tom tom's are better that pro sat nav, why dealers are all shite, and the very popular winter tyres thread which is soon to come back to in force!!!

I enjoyed looking at your post & pics, it is great that even though you forgot your camera, is great phones can now capture such good shots, makes me wanna have a drive somewhere special at the weekend!

one thing I did like about the Mini forums was that "drives out" were part of the package. Many a trip with 10-50 minis in a line.
One of the best ways I have found to make life a touch more interesting is to avoid the Motorways at all costs, hell, even avoid A roads if you can
