Arrow 1M KW V3 Installed and Tested... Updated with New Pictures

This weekend we had the pleasure of working with Tony R. of BM Racing to install a set of KW V3 on Franklin's 1M. We lowered the car by 1" all around and pulled the front pins to max out the camber. We also performed a 'hybrid' alignment that is suitable for the street and track.

We ran a quick shakedown lap, and the body roll and settling time is noticeably reduced. The car also feels more composed going over larger bumps. More to come when we spend more time on the race track

Enjoy the pictures!

Update 8/5/2011

I had a great time working with Franklin today.

On his first outing on the KW V3, he dropped over 2.5 seconds from his previous fastest lap on stock suspension.

Then, through Data Coaching using the AiM EVO4 system, we were able to drop another FULL second after just a few sessions. Well done Franklin!
  • Fastest Lap on Stock Suspension: 1:53.5
  • First Session on KW V3: 1:50.9
  • After Data Coaching: 1:49.9

Great post Richard! I can't wait to hear more updates as you guys get more and more track time.

Are these similar spring rates to the E9X M3 KW V3s?
How much camber were you able to get by removing the pins from the stock shock mounts?

Front camber = -1.8. Decided not to go too low as i'm trying to fit some track wheels and tires. Will adjust as needed later on.

Surprisingly, the car was very comfortable on my drive home (KW preset settings).
Car felt firm but not harsh and bouncy.

Cant wait to play with settings on track.

Nice!

I have set mine up right in the middle ground so far and waiting for a proper alignment. The feel is very much like stock when city driving, but when diving into a corner it definitely holds more and can carry more speed before it gets loose.

Would you say the rear end 'wiggle' some journalists and Advevo have mentioned is reduced? If so, to what extent?

There won't be a V1. 1M already comes with a very competent suspension system from the factory, so for me, the only logical step would be to step up to a system that has more adjustability.

Just got done testing today, dropped almost 4 secs (with the help of data). Suspension feels great on track (we still used the preset settings).
My front tires are pretty much shot...sigh.

That's great to hear! Goes to show that improving track times is more than just having a trick suspension! Great job improving your skills.

Which data acquisition are you using?

i personally had Harry's lap timer, but Richard brought his AIM setup and laptop, which made the Harry's lap timer look like crap. Seriously considering the new AIM Solo now.

Nice! Looking at the screen shot you really improved a lot in the last left right corners. So glad to see the KW's gave the 1M a more planted feel in the corners. I went with less negative camber in the rear. Did you get much/any understeer on track?

Very impressive! I can't wait until I can pick up my data acquisition tool.

Thanks for sharing Franklin and Richard!

If you don't me asking, how difficult is it to transfer units from one car to another, more speciically CANbus connections, etc?

This is the second time I have seen someone leave the car in second gear and not use the e brake. Why is this? Does this not stress out the gearbox holding all the weight? Is that why gear 2nd is used vs 1st? How is this advantageous to the e-brake. I tend to look into things to much it simply just the way you park its just the way you park. But I am sure someone with track experience has another reason besides "preventing from rolling down a hill"...Please do tell

Engaging the emergency brake with fresh-off-the-track hot rotors is asking to melt/warp your rear pads... and I'd imagine the car happened to be in 2nd gear when it stopped or it's just easier to access the electronics with it in 2nd.

Dude is SLOW.. HAHAHAHAHA... just kidding.... :-) Great improvement from the suspension...
A full second from the data is nothing to sneeze at.. although In my head I was expecting more.
Of course... you may go back out next time and really have that sink in and gain more..

Looking good that sure does

I have just received my new clubsports for my track day car having ran V3's (matched with comp springs) previously but am lining up V3's for the 1M when it arrives in a few months time.

Nice one that
