Tire size on 2008 xi sport edition

I recently purchased this car from BMW it has sport package it has 17s. Everywhere I look it says the sport should have 18s

Did I get screwed?

Hmm should have 18'' from what I know on this.

According to Tire Rack, your car came equipped with either OEM 17" wheels and 225/45HR17 RFT all-season tires or staggered 18"wheels with Summer Performance RFTs.

335 with sport package comes with 17's as standard, 18's are optional.

That's your answer.

Sport package is sport package. The 18" wheel upgrade is a separate option.
