2011 BMW 335is Transmission Error...(car tow'ed)(vid)

I had purchased the brand new BMW 335is for over 6 months now.

There has a been a thread I've created about how it stalled on reverse

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=549297

Basically, the car would stall on reverse, and it would not shift to Drive or Reverse for 5-10 minutes. it would drive fine after.

When this happened, I decided to bring it into the dealers for a checkup. However BMW could not find any error codes so there was nothing they could do.

Today it happened again, I was actually quite glad it happened sooner than later.

However after I started driving, the car would not shift out of 1st gear, I tried to use the tiptronic/manual but obviously it didn't work.

I then get an transmission error on my iDrive.

Called roadside assistance

if your wondering why my car is looking so nice it's because i sweat my ass off this morning washing it + detail/interior

I hope this dont happen to any of you IS drivers anytime soon, the car havent hit 5k yet....

When a transmission has a build issue, it tends to show up early in the life of the car, most likely they need to put a new one in, unless its a software issue. If they have the car more than 4 days, you should be due a credit on your lease/bmw car payment too, and get a nice loaner.

it breaks my heart to see such a beautiful car being towed. Why didn't they use a flatbed?

By the way, do you use launch control often? Perhaps a defective DCT to begin with.

oh hey ur local to me! hello there!

were there any symptoms or weird things going on with ur car prior to this?
like weird shifts, noises, etc etc. im always paranoid about my dct breaking since its still new tech and not just any transmission tech will know how to fix it if it breaks.

i know my dct makes a a very faint thump noise when it downshifts so im always paranoid, some people with dct says its normal

crossing my fingers hoping this is an isolated case.

ps: which dealership r u bringing this car to? good luck dealing with them

launch control? cars stock in terms of performance. and they couldnt use a flatbed since the problem was transmission related

I actually live in Richmond too haha, bringing it to autowest...
I don't really recall any symptoms, everything sounds normal all the time to be honest.

when i go into manual mode i let it downshift by it's self unless im passing ppl & stuff so....

UPDATE

I was ready to car the towing company to make a trip to my dealers today, however when I started up the car, it sounded very normal so to my surprise it drove perfectly fine..

so i took it to the dealers without towing and got a replacement car

2 hours later I get a call that I could get my car back as soon as tmr... it turned out to be a software problem (something like my car's software wasnt up to date...)

im still skeptical though what are your thoughts.

My thoughts are it will happen again. My car is 9mo old and I've never had any DCT issues nor have I had any software updates.

Lame. I can see how some sort of software glitch could cause the issue... And just hope I don't see it on mine. (Fingers crossed)

bumping this up

anyone else with a 335is and DCT having problems?

my 335is DCT is having some weird things going on.

1st, the clutches chatter quite loudly, i know for a fact this is clutch chatter as a) it sounds exactly like an aftermarket clutch that chatters, b) the chattering noise only happens when the transmission is free spinning (eg. in park, netural, or waitting at the stop light when the brakes r applied, once i let off the brakes and the clutches enguages, the noise is gone

2nd, the gear box makes a loud thump upon downshifts, can mostly be heard when slowing down and the gearbox itself automatically downshifting into 2nd and 1st. this can only be heard if the music is off and outside is quiet

anyone else notice weird things going on with their DCT?

A co worker of mine bought a 2012 M3 6MT. He went over to his in laws in CT with his wife driving the M3. When he was on the parkway, he was doing about 80mph then he went to shift into 4th gear. Guess what? the clutch pedal never came back up. Car has 3K miles only and is still at BMW now. any transmission can be defective. Just get what you enjoy
