Quick question.

I parked my car in underground parking at QFC, and when I get back its wet on one side from dripping pipe water. Would you do a quick touchless wash? I'm a little paranoid that the water is contaminated.

No! The food is contaminated! Unless of course you take it through a brushless car wash.

Contaminated water can leave water spots on the clear coat, and if the water is acidic, can even etch into the clear coat overtime. Just spray the area with a hose.

OP you are overly concerned.

i put a surfboard covered in ocean water on my roof almost every day. the water drips onto the roof and leaves salt water spots. seabird shit plops all over the car. dust from the mesa where i work blows all over the surface and into crevices. i gotta dent from a golf ball last time i was at the course. bug juice is nicely spread over the headlights and fascia.

there's absolutely nothing you can do if you actually USE your vehicle besides paying for a nice detail once a month (or a good wash every 2 weeks) and taking it to a good pdr guy when chaos hits the bodywork.

imo life is too short to worry about your car all the time. enjoy that shit.

+1

I wash mine about once a month, but I do a real good job at it and make sure there's no marring of the paint whatsoever. Yea if your car looks like shit, I'm not sure how it can be enjoyed.

Nice place you work at. Your company wash and detail employee's cars?

By the way, detailing involves polishing. If you polish too much.. your clear coat would be gone, no?

If you are really serious about this, simply make sure your car is regularly waxed and carry a small bottle of detailing spray.

the enjoyment is in the driving feel and the fact that it gets me where i wanna go with all my gear. it gets real dirty after 2 weeks, then gets clean again. it gets dented, then the dent gets pushed out. it's not a princess, it's a small workhorse. washing is important. but not an anxiety.

now, if i had a 60's ferarri the thing would never feel a raindrop.
