doubt you did enough damage to file a claim... but if you do, comp will cover it.

if you're under warranty, have them look at it (just to inspect/diagnose the problm, not to fix it).

Did you ever actually look under your car and see if anything was wedged or tangled around something under your car? That would have been my next move.
And yes, Insurance will cover it. Why people would tell you to go to the dealership and claim "warranty" when you ran something over is beyond me. good luck, I hope it all works out for you.

You made a 911 call, I think it's believable that there was a legit incident and you were close enough to it to have run over something. Just contact your agent and go from there. Life happens, you didn't do anything wrong.

I don't know how accurate this is but I was once told that if you ever run something over on the highway and it causes damage to your car you should tell your insurance company the item was rolling/moving and you tried to avoid it. They said the insurance would not cover the damage if the item was stationary because you should gave been able to avoid the object.

Depends on what coverages you have on your policy. If you have Collision coverage, it should be covered. Comp, doubtful. Technically speaking it has to be a "missile" or however it's worded under the Comp section of your policy. This means it would have to be moving when you struck it. I'd take it to a shop to diagnose what the problem is prior to filing a claim with your insurer. If it's going to exceed the amount of your Collision deductible, notify your insurer immediately prior to authorizing any repairs so that they have a chance to inspect your car.

Everything is in the details. It depends how you explain it to your insurance company. Obviously you are not going to tell them you hit a stationary object. Just tell the truth. An accident occur in front of you and you hit the debri from the aftermath. I had a similar experience. Some table flew from a truck and it shatter on the freeway. I hit a piece of the shatter table and it dent my bumper. Insurance paid for a new bumper. This happen when I owned a evo IX MR.

Is this something I should get taken care of right away and report? As of now, it is just an annoyance with all the squeals but the car drives perfectly fine.
Should I bring it to their attention that this happened and it might need repairs at a later time? I don't really have the time right now to get it checked, and possibly repaired for a few days. edit* Thanks for all the responses btw. |
