I use a BEL Vector 995 in the E92...good sensitivity and very dependable. I have it just to the left of the mirror mount where the Laser "eye" is below the tint band, and it's wired into the overhead console's power. The 128i has a BEL RX-55 "Pro Series" mounted the same way. Had the local tint/alarm shop wire them in for us.

In my state using a radar detector without also using a laser jammer will get you a ticket in no time. I don't know if they use laser in your state.
I have an Escort 9500i clipped to my passenger visor and hardwired with this super cool harness. The LEDs stick up from inside my steering wheel column and the switch is below and to the right of my Start button. I also have a Laser Interceptor with dual front sensors mounted vertically in the kidney grills. Its switch is mounted between the seat heater buttons. This stuff cost a lot of money, but it's extremely liberating. In four months since the install, I've had two point blank laser saves and way more radar saves than I can count. adding: I turned the volume to zero on the Laser Interceptor because the Escort 9500i also gives laser alerts and is way less annoying. Both my BEL units have laser detection but no jamming capability. Laser jammers are relatively expensive so I try to always have someone in front of me so I can pick up the signal when they get lasered.

Valentine One, with the stealth display mounted low down to avoid being too obvious. I've used V1's for ten years, and in that time the only speeding ticket I ever got was during a two week period after my first one was stolen and before the second one arrived.

Valentine 1 or passport 950O. The rest are second.
V1 most sensitive fOr radar but false alerts so much it's crap. 9500 uses gps to lock out falses. Mine is hardwired using add a fuse method and mounted above rear mirror on left. Easy hardwired that a monkey could do in 20 minutes with no experience. Completely reversible. |

9500ix with dual Laser Interceptors mounted on the front.
Amazon sometimes has pretty good deals on the 9500ix, picked up mine for $325.

If you want long range detection its either the Escort Redline or the V1 for portability. The STi-R plus is also a great one for long range but it is a concealed setup. If you want less falses go with the 9500ix but it has less range than the V1 or Redline. I went with the Redline and I love it. I choose it because of its long range, voice alerts, and its spec mode which displays the frequencies that is being detected. TSR on the Escorts is also something you might want to look at since traffic sensors are being implemented more and more.
Heres a pic of mine:

Escort 9500ix. The GPS does a great job of preventing false alarms.
