Quick Question On BMW Codes
the e92 refers to all the new 3series coupes such as 328 and 335i while e90 are all the new 3 series and older models such as 335i sedan, and 325i?
so is the new m3 e93 or 92? what is the model code of its engine such as m3 is s54 and 335i is n54. are the 335i convs e93? clarification please thank you. |

would depend if it is a sedan, coupé or cabrio. You got the distinction correct in your opening graf.

Why are these forums so obsessed with the production model codes?
Talk to any SA or CA or BA and they talk 335 coupe, sedan, or vert. When people ask what car I drive I say Fiat Punto, but my wife drives (will drive) a 335.

Because over time, you start referring to your vehicle by platform. IE: My other car is an "e36 M3". My last car was a B6 A4.

You need the model number because if you say you have a 2005 330i you don't know if that means the old body style 330 or the new body style. When I had my last car 1999 328i people often times expected that it was the e36 but in reality that year there was the e46 as a sedan and the e36 as the coupe but with the same number. Today it gets even more confusing as the 335i could be either a coupe or a sedan and bet your bottom dollars that the next generation body style starts out with a 335i sedan too. Guess that one will be an "F" something?
