Engine Question

I'm looking to get either an E90 or E92 in the fall as my daily driver. I do a lot of driving in my job (approx. 20K miles a year-mostly city). Do you think the 335 can handle that kind of wear and tear year in and year out, or would I be better off getting the 328?

Please note, this question has nothing to do with money. Nor am I trying to start another 335 vs. 328 thread. I am just looking for honest advice on which engine will get me though the next 5 years and 100K miles with the least amount of trouble.

Thanks.

I drive my 335i 80-100 miles a day 5 days a week. Mostly highway, but a lot of traffic jams. My manual transmission is great and things are going fine with more than 6000 miles since January.

If your not looking for outrageous performance get the 328i its plenty fast, especially living in Arizona it will be getting to 120F soon which makes the street around 180F. So the turbos will show a loss in performance..

If you are driving that kind of mileage mostly in the city I'd go with the 328i. I know it's not about money, but why torture a nice 335i with city driving.

Build a lease plan on the 335 with 20K as the mileage base. An extra 5000 miles (per year) on a 15000 lease should cost you less than $1500 up front.

Put nothing down.

During the lease period, you will get free maintenance and a full warranty.

In three years, hand it back and get another.

(Edit) Probably not a good idea since you will exceed the warranty mileage during the three years.

if money is not a factor i would get the 335 because those times you are not in the city will be more enjoyable. i personally think the 335 can handle the wear and tear sans any fuel pump issues.

If long term reliability is a concern it's a no-brainer: go with a 328 with manual transmission.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was concerned the turbos might burn up the engine with that kind of mileage. Since no one seems to think that is a concern, I think I'll go for the 335. You only live once right?

AndrewAZ, I see you live in Phoenix. Any recommendations for a dealer or sales advisor?

My only regret is not getting sports package.. Having a limit of 135mph sucks.
