Source of Water getting in front floorboard Carpet
I have a 2007 335 with 56,000 miles. The past couple of weeks I have taken it on long trips in this summer heat and my carpet down in the foot wells/floorboard area is getting soaked. Seems the driver side is a little worse but I noticed it in the passenger side too. I can't tell where it is coming from and both times it happened I also drove through some severe storms. So I'm not really sure if its from AC condensation or the car is not draining well from rain. I thought I also noticed it after I washed the car but then again not sure if it was the AC either. Anyone have any idea where this water could be coming from. The AC still works fine.

Have you checked the drain traps on either side of the car under the hood Brotha? They get clogged real quickly if you park under trees alot. Maybe thats the source. Also have you had the windshield replaced recently?

There's a service bulletin out for the windshield cowl cover lifting/not being re-installed correctly and it will allow water to drip onto the AC blower motor and into the passenger and sometimes dirver's side foot well area.
The AC blower usually will develop rust from the moisture and fail....check the rubber cover at the bottom of your windshield. If you hear squeaking from the AC blower, it may be on it's way out. TSB does NOT cover blower failure, only the replacement of the cowl cover. |

No and no. The drain traps are clear but the other day I was clearing them and a leaf fell down in there. Ooops... Could that be the cause?? If so how would I get that out. I can't see it when I try my best to peer down in there.

It's when they get clogged and the water pools above that net/screen, it can overflow into the footwell area. |

Okay, I will look for that too the next time it rains. But wow, that would have to be a lot of water to get that high. I looked at the rubber liner along the bottom of the windshield. Have to admit it doesn't seem to sit tight against it at all and was very easy to pull back along the ends (See photo). I feel like water could get back there easily. Is this the problem you mentioned??

I had a similar problem except it was the back, driver's side floorboard. Here's a link to my thread I posted: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=261212
Hope that helps. PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the link. Wow, this isn't going to be simple to figure out I guess. At least it isn't pointing to an AC problem. Although I am really leaning toward a windshield issue since both sides were wet. Would find it hard to believe that both doors went bad at the same time to cause this problem. Haven't noticed my rear matts having a problem. With a 2 door car, they could also get impacted I guess. Maybe another reason why it is likely the windshield.

On other cars (not necessarily BMWs) I've seen the drain tube for the A/C evap core get plugged up and cause a backup of water to come into the footwell area. That may be something else worth looking into if the windshield cowl isn't the problem

Some water will always get through, but the majority of it is suppose to be channeled away. You AC blower motor is under the fuse panel on the passenger side. Look for water dripping there. If it is, replace that cowl cover. Or try reseating it. You can try double sided tape on the edge but it's not meant to be glued down. |
