Yeah I will from now on..

The only reason I did not do it myself was because I assumed that the filters cost a ton but I looked it up and the filter they used Maan only costs 27 dollars retail. K&N costs 50..

Yeah, dealer installed filter is outrageous.Just do it yourself. BMW of Towson wanted to charge me $35 to put air in my tires during the winter when it lost some air due to extremely cold temps. My car only had 14,000 miles at the time and well under the 4 year warranty period.

It's not a bad price for a dealer. $30 part + 1/2 hour labor to install.

Everyone is comparing a DIY to having a shop do it for you. Labor = Money...

But if you had to pay overhead, a SA to write it up, a tech to do the work and a cashier to take the money, I bet you would charge at least 1/2 hr labor.

Tom
I don't think any of us fail to realize they are running a business. I brought my dog to the vet 5 weeks ago and left an hour later with my wallet (or my AMEX) $1200 lighter. Absolutely nothing was wrong with my dog. Those vets didn't get any of the money, the owner of the practice did (and it's a mega corp now btw). Think to yourself, what could they possibly have done in an hours time, esp. when you consider we were waiting for 35 min.? The pay to play concept comes to mind.
