Help with car buying decision
OK, here is the deal...I had a 335i a couple years ago, bought a used 335i sport with 30k miles (2007 model), had nothing but problems with it...HPFP issues, and possibly other bugs left me at the dealer 4-5 x ALL DAY, and the issues were never fixed. I was never stranded with it, but I did frequent the limp home mode on a # of occations, ALOT even when the car wasn't being pushed. We loved the ride, seats, etc, but reliability was crap and it wasn't a cpo so we dumped it before warranty was out.
Now I'm back in the market for a fun DD that is "reasonable" on gas. I am looking at alot of different cars, 11' Mustang GT, 335i sedan, GTI, Mitsubishi Evo (DSG) etc. Wife needs to be able to drive it on occation and she can't drive a stick. So, when looking at what you get for the money, the 335i CPO is a strong option, but the question is can I minimize my chances of getting a lemon through smart selection? Is 1 year model less prone for issues than another? What can I look for in a used car (HPFP deal recall fixed, oil cooler installed, brake recall fixed etc)? I think a 335i sport with JB or other tuner and mild exhaust would fit our needs well, but I don't want to end up with another lemon.... Input greatly appreciated!

If I had that many problems with one, I'd likely not be buying another with the same engine and same HPFP problems. Have you considered a Lexus IS or Infinity G37? I'd probably look at one of those two cars over the ones you listed.
