White cars

Hi,

I am looking for a 320D SE (facelift version). I have found a cheap one on Autotrader but it's white. I've never been a fan of white cars in the past but wondered if you need to look after it any differently than darker cars.

Do you need to wash it frequently?
Does minor scratches (if any) show up more?
etc etc

Appreciate any comments.

thanks

I've just sold a white 3 series. They don’t show scratches and stone chips as bad as the darker cars and IMO they're not as rewarding when you clean them, you don't get that satisfying depth of shine either. I’d still have another, but they have to be the better spec models.

Yeah if your getting a white e9xx's it has to be an m sport. I think white cars look superb in top spec cars but shit on lower spec models.
I'd go for white who cares about the extra cleaning. My neighbours think I have ocd. ...Clean my car 3 times a week. Maybe they're right

With the right products and techniques white can be made to almost shine. I use a professional detailer regularly and when he's finished it looks stunning.
I love my white E90 and I'd order white again without a second thought.

Think I would order white next. It's an aquired taste, but I think it suits the e9x shape. Been told it's the new 'black' but salesman at Dick Lovetts said black still out sells white six to one!!

I agree. People have come up to me and say that they dont like white cars but then go on to say that that my car looks stunning in white.

I am torn between another white car and Le Mans blue when I replace it later this year

Take a look at this thread and you will see white as the new red in the States.

I think with a White 3 series, it has to be a M sport.

Wonder how long the fascination with white will last? It seems to be a bit of a "today" colour (I blame iPods)
Have to admit I do love the look of them, there is another M-Sport tourer at work in same spec as my space grey one, and I cannot decide which I prefer (seems to depend on the day one way or another)

biased u ask? perhaps! But the previous owner of my E90 got his then black car, fully resprayed to white and .. I did not question him for even 1 second.. just seems like white is the IN thing and doesn't seem to indicate that'll be out of fashion any time soon. They do look good though, as per cleaning, you get so much satisfaction from seeing it clean and spotless!! Go white!!

M Sport coupé really suits white. Clean regularly; apply to tarmac often. Not sure white is still in vogue though? Lots of white second hand cars now coming on the market...

I do like some white cars but I do believe that it's not a long lasting craze.

For all the people who like white there are plenty more who would not touch a white car.

Got a feeling that white cars will not hold their value long term as well as safe colours.

Not sure if I agree with that. When I was looking for mine, I was initially looking at AUC and white was actually commanding a premium over any other colour.

I think the next range of colours to come into fashion will be 'off-white' like creams and egg-shell.

White cars are all the rage! Just read an article in fridays news paper that sales of white cars is on the up!

Thing is, they put it down to Apple! and its them that has made White popular again! Oo er!

White was 'in' when I ordered my e92 in march of 2007 - I didn't have the balls to do it myself.

Nearly 4 and a half years on I think we can safely say White is a little more than a 'fad' as some are suggesting.

AUC will always "big" something up to be worth more than it is; I can just hear their rhetoric now: oh yes, sir white is very popular and will be for the next 10 years - until you come to trade one in that is... Longer term, white will drop back as metallic is still preferable for buying guides (although mineral white?). Can't see many peeps wanting Jaguar XFs in white in a couple of years. And have you seen a white 5/7 series? Ugh!

Buy a white car because you like it and not what others think!

Oddly though, hasn't Apple moved away from white, adopting a more silver/metallic/brushed aluminium colour in their mainstream products and logo?
