MV4 Buyers guide? Help please

Fair few 19" Mv4s listed on ebay now - in particular a few sets with "almost brand new rear wheels and tyres"

Which clearly indicates their originals were cracked.

But should they really be avoided? Or for their cost (extremely low compared to 18" MV3s) is it worth the gamble?

I do very little long distance or country driving - about 4000miles per year in my car

So I guess if anyone can take the risk then its me? (as opposed to 20K miles per year driver!)

If I bought them and collected them, is a crack obvious? I have searched, but cannot see a clear guide or point "do not buy if they have this mark"!

Thanks

I've had mine for ages now with no problems. IMO cracks are pretty easy to spot (there are photos on here), and any welded repairs also, as the factory finish on the inside is basically a bare matt finish (you'll know what I mean when you see one) that looks very difficult, if not impossible, to recreate post repair.

If you run them with non-RFTs and keep the tyres inflated, I really don't think there is anything to worry about. Make sure they aren't already cracked though when you buy them!

Run them with low tyre pressures on RFTs, and that's when they crack - IMO.

Garage List
Jacko, I know someone with a set of 225's (MV4) that would be interested in selling.
At least one of the wheels will need some attention as I believe it has some damage.
The front tyres are Bridgestone runflats (225/35/19) and in good condition.
The rear tyres are f*cked, however the seller would throw in some Conti's in good condition (255/30/19).

The wheels are uncracked and came off a 335i cab.
James is looking for approx £400.00, if you're interested let me know and I'll organise some pictures and some more details.

Was in talks with seller to spend £500 on a mint set with runflats all round - but fronts have 3mm and very slight kerbing. So thanks but these seem a better deal than your friends'!

That cost was due to repeated attempts on ebay...they're just not selling!

I always have the 'their loss is my gain' attitude, but feel with 225s I may come un-stuck possibly!

i have 24k miles on mine and they are perfect, I know many of them got cracked and i feel for all the owners that were pissed about by BMW, but I still belive it was a very small percentage of these wheels that got cracked.

And they are by far the best wheels you can have on an E9X

Had mine 2 years and just under 30,000 miles.

I knew they had a reputation for cracking before I bought them and checked them carefully. It didn't put me off.

I would not touch them. I had style 230 on my 335i and one rear cracked so I changed to MV3's.

My wife has style 230's on her 335i and both the rears cracked so I replaced them and all 4 tyres to non Run flats and they seem to be ok now.
