Debate

BMW is a reputable brand and is a symbol of status. It attracts everyone especially the upper echelon of our society. Wealthy people, at one point in time, had to struggle to attain their wealth. Regardless of the age factor, does one need to struggle to obtain a BMW in order to truly achieve the status that comes along with it?

If you're buying a BMW to achieve some type of worth through status, then you're spending your money on the wrong thing. You ought to visit a therapist first, then buy your BMW.

Regardless if they desire it, one will automatically inherit this "status" that is placed on them by society. But the question is, does one deserve it? =P

It's called stereotyping. Whether they deserve it or not, society will have the final say.

Yeah, this stereotyping thing is really starting to aggravate me. I'm one of the nicest drivers on the road and I get treated terribly because of the make of my car. Not cool.

The status your car affords you is based on your own perception or your own need for recognition. Ultimately the car is what you want it to be. For me it's a great driving car. Sometimes I'm self conscious that it's a BMW but I get over that quickly.

The bmw stereotype is far from a "status." Who goes around and says "see that guy? he DESERVES that bmw." Nobody.

Here's a scenario for you:

1) A man works a crap job for 10 years to save up for a BMW.

2) A man, who doesn't work and comes from money, just bought BMW for kicks.

Who deserves the car more?

That maybe so. I understand the situation. I just said nobody goes around and says to themselves who does and doesnt deserve a bmw...except you. Nobody should save up for 10 years for a car though. You can get hit by an idiot with no insurance. So much for those 10 years

Sounds like OP's having us discuss his Essay Prompt for a class, no?
The guy who said you don't need to struggle for a Beemer, but some do is spot on.
I got my 335i from my parents, and while they worked hard for their money, I did not directly work, or "struggle", for the car.
One of my math teachers, drives a 325i and doesn't shut up about the status of a bimmer; he constantly reminds his class that he's not rich 'cause because he drives a BMW.
He's a great guy, and I can tell he takes pride in driving his car even if it isn't always clean.

Also, if you're struggling to pay for a BMW, you should rethink your financial decisions.
I'd rather drive a civic knowing I can afford going to the movies, then drive a BMW and stress of my car payments. I'm sure you didn't actually mean "struggle", but maybe "work hard for".

No, buy used and learn how to DIY. Everyone thinks I paid tons of cash for it, I tell everyone it is expensive to upkeep (to keep up the rep and to add to the rumor that BMWs are expensive to maintain, this will help keep down the value of used bmws. ) Between me and you, BMWs are cheap! I paid $17,400 for mine. My maintenance for over a year (maybe 2) ownership was one or two oil changes, OEM spark plugs that costs $40 and rear ceramic brake pads that costs $40 with a lifetime warranty at advance auto. Who is better than me.

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
