Vacation Gone Wrong

So me and a few friends decided to go camping this week. We decided to go out to Leavenworth Wa, in hopes to escape the nasty weather in Seattle. We arrived to the campsite and automatically began to drink. Something was bound to happen. As the night progressed I became belligerent, I stood up and tried walking to the nearest tree in order to take a piss, while doing so I stumbled over a piece of fire wood which caused me to fall into the fire. That was the least of my worries though as I sprung right out of it preventing any injuries. I dont remember a single thing after that incident occurred. Anyways I woke up the next morning in search of my keys... I was frantically looking everywhere. After about an hour of searching I began to piece together the night and realized I had fallen into the fire. I rushed to the fire pit and began to dig like an animal. After digging around in the ash for twenty minutes I found an electronic chip shaped exactly the way our FOB's are. I automatically knew it was my key. As I continued searching for clues I found the rest of the keys in the pit concluding that my keys have officially fallen into the fire. Later that day I attempted to get a hold of roadside assistance through the camp hosts OnStar, as there was completely no service within an eight mile radius of the campground. After contacting them they notified me that my assistance has expired and it would cost 119 dollars for every twenty miles in order for a tow truck to come pick me up. I was camping 120 miles from home, which means that would be 240 miles both ways. I obviously said no thank you and continued looking for a solution to the problem. But as I brainstormed I realized there is no way for me to resolve the problem without a cell phone. And I am nowhere near service area, and my car was the only source of transportation, meaning we had no other choice but to begin walking towards the area of town which had service. After 3 hours of painful walking we reached the town which had service. I made a few phone calls and came to the conclusion that I will be stuck at my campsite for two days until my buddy can drive from Seattle and tow my car home with his truck. Long story short, two miserable days later my friend shows up to tow me. By far the worst camping trip I have ever had. My question is; is there any way I can get a new key for less than 400 which is what BMW wants for one? I only had one. This trip already broke my bank, I cant afford to buy a new key and I need my car for work in two days. Any help would be great guys. Thanks!

After what you've been through, would it matter that much if one dealership were $400, another $385, $275, etc.? Seems like having the incident resolved is easily worth $400. How did your friend tow you, on your front wheels?

All i can say is.. You have a really good friend there.

I'm not sure if you can order a key fob from Tischer and then have the dealer program it..?

I was thinking this was a troll...

that was going to take us through all of that story and then break into to "Never Gonna Give You Up" or "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". I was kinda excited to get trolled too.

OP - That is an interesting story - and I hope you get your key issue taken care of quickly and with little pain.

Drive the 350z to work - isn't it faster/more fun anyway? Otherwise ride ur 600. Unless u selling door to door or driving clients, what's the issue?

I'll buy your lip for $100 if that would help(assuming decent condition).

In all seriousness if u need car in two days u dong have any option but dealer.

What about your second key?

If not, nothing else you can do but pay the $400 fee for another key (I'm assuming that's a comfort access key, a regular key should be less).

No choice but to pay it I guess... could be worse. Could have black out driven your car off a cliff or into a lake..

Im a 19 year old college student, and most my money goes towards my toys and rent. A 1000 dollar trip will easily break my bank.

Both the 350z and the 600 are located at my house in Ellensburg where I go to college. I am currently on summer break working and have no access to those vehicles.

I just had my lip repainted the other day so I will be keeping it, Thanks though.

Early e9X's(?) came with a spare key built into the fob that can be used to unlock the door (early e9x's had keyholes on the handles). After getting inside, you can insert the spare key into the spare fob (in the glovebox) and operate the vehicle. Not sure if this useful backup system was replaced in the '07's and later. I have this in my '06 330i and am thankful.

My advice is to get two fob's (beg or borrow money) and keep one safe at home before your next camping trip. Many good camping trips have been ruined by beer but can you have a good camping trip without beer? Better luck next time and just be glad you didn't suffer horrific burns. That would really suck.

You've got a story you will retell for the rest of your life. Enjoy the value of that.
