Poll: Mounting and Balancing Costs at BMW Dealer

I'd very much appreciate the input of those on this forum.

I recently took my E93 into the dealer for routine service and inspection. Later in the day I received a call from my service advisor informing me that my rear tires were worn out (at 19,000 miles).

This wasn't a surprise and I had an almost new set ready to go on, which I took to the dealer for mounting and balancing. Foolishly (it turns out) I did not ask what the charge would be. I (wrongly) assumed that it might be as much as 50% more than I would pay at an independent shop (i.e., $150 instead of $100), which I judged worth it for the convenience.

The upshot: I was charged $260 to mount and balance four tires!

Can you help me determine whether I was taken advantage of?

If you've ever had a set of tires mounted and balanced by a BMW dealer, please post the approximate amount you paid.

Thanks.

I work at a dealer in Norway, not BMW but at a Mitsubishi dealership. We charge about $35,- to balance and mount tires not bought here. Also $140,- for a complete set of wheels.

But then again a 325i E92 from 2007 costs around $70.000,- with 35.000 miles.
And a gallon of unleaded fuel is $9.70,-..

So I'd say you have paid way to much, even here...

That's why they call it the "stealer". I would never get any service done at mine unless it was under warranty.

Depending on which shop and where you are located, there is a pretty wide price range.

Here at VMR Wheels we Mount & Hunter Road Force Balance all of our tire packages for $15 per wheel. I have seen shops go anywhere from about $25-40 a wheel.

My dealership charges about $21/tire. If you're a regular service customer we cut you a break, but it's kinda discretionary.

For instance, if you just had a $1,000 service bill, I'd mount your tires for free.
