New car pick-up guide?

Hi all

Obviously I'm thinking of little else than Saturday morning at the moment (see other threads). However, it got me thinking about the things to do/ask when I actually pick it up.

Do people have things they normally do with the and confirm/ask the dealer to make sure they're 100% before they sign-up etc etc? Like for example checking it's not be damaged and repair during delivery? Check for paint/swirl marks? Check there's oil in it? Check it's not actually got 50 miles on the clock?

I just thought if we all got our ideas together this could be quite a useful reference thread?

Thoughts?

Phil

I think we've all done this Phil http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514880 Some mention of GAP there too.

Try and get them to chuck something in. It's not a completed deal unless you blag something. How about some black grilles? A decent key ring is always a winner. Or bootliners. Christ knows, something. I managed to get one of these

Oh and check the tyre pressures. New cars always come set at maximum load ie all passengers and full boot. And don't forget to reset if you drop them.

I'd try for the free golf umbrellas. Only problem is they are a bit too long to fit straight sideways in the boot.

Ha ha. Looks like you've been there asked the same question. I like that one about checking under the front grill. I can imagine how that would get scuffed coming off lorries, boats etc etc.

I've already asked him to make sure that whoever their best guy is, I want him prepping it. I've said I know LMB swirls and holograms easily and that I don't want to see ANY! I'll also be making sure the oyster interior is totally unmarked.

I"m definitely in the pick it up from the dealer camp. I seriously can't wait. I just home it's sunny on Saturday so that the colour looks its best.

Is there a way of checking the tyre pressures from the iDrive?

I've already got them to throw in the iPhone cradle and USB lead for my iPod. Not bad I thought?

Going to get some GAP cover but not from BMW. They're quoting £599 for 4 years of return to invoice at £20k at the moment. They need to get to £300 before I bite!

If you get a hacksaw, you have to cut approx 4 inches off the end you would stick inthe ground. then they fit perfectly in the luggage hooks and dont move! LOL

Per the other thread - get GAP insurance from ala. BMW quoted me around £500 for my new F10 but ala quoted £127. Guess which I picked....

Take a tyre pressure gauge if you want - never occured to me - but you can't read off actual pressures on the iDrive.

Jeez, surely they won't wreck the paintwork of a brand new car! Finger's crossed.

Woohoo - just had my connected drive loggin details through on text. Was going to get an early night but I'm playing online again now.

Sooooo excited!

Maybe this would be the perfect time to find your house on Google Maps and send it to your car. You know, so you can find your way home. With the swanky satnav.

Chaps

Firstly, Rich - thanks for the concern. I'm touched.

However, the weekend went something like this. Picked up car at 10am. Got it home. Spent 3 hours putting a really good coat of wax on and polishing it off. Didn't need anything else as the prep was absolutely spotless. Then took the Mrs out for some dinner as a pub while I let it go dark. Then found some of Cheshires finest lanes to get out and test the active lights - which are superb. Sunday was then drive out in the morning, dropped into TC for lunch and watch HP in 3D (which is brilliant btw) and then I've just spent the last four hours driving back down here to Sussex. So as far as weekends go, it's been pretty damn good. Just wish every weekend was as good.

The car. Oh the car the car the car. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it was going to be soooo good. Everything is brilliant. Where do I start.

Performance - Now obviously I'm playing it by the manual and keeping the revs down for first couple of thousand km but the power that's clearly there is sublime. It just picks up so easily and then the charge begins. I'll have to comment again as to exactly how far the charge goes once I've got a few more miles on the clock (which won't be long - I'm already planning excuses to go out and drive this week).

The gearbox is a bit weird. Probably a combination of it being a very short shift and also that I've not driven a manual for 2 years. But I like the m-sport gear knob. Lovely.

Handling - there's about 10 miles of twisties between the M25 and my house here. So I've literally just finished. The car's brilliant. I've heard some people say that the m-sport suspension is a bit hard. Personally, I'd say it's just right. Nowhere near as hard as an Audi S or RS suspension but not wobbly in any sort of way. And I can't believe I've never had a RWD car before. I just love getting pushes around bends. As an aside, the active headlights with the high beam assist are absolutely out of this world. The way they follow the road knocks the socks off the system that was in my RS4 (granted there's another 5 years of technology there now or something) and the assist is so blooody clever - how it knows when there's a car 500m in front of you. I mean just as the car in front went out of sight around a bend on came the lights again.

Interior - the highlight must be the sound system. The HK speakers are fantastic. There is no other word for them. I've listened to everything from Green Day to Chopin to Les Mis on the way back and I was blown away each and every time I changed genre. Sympathetic when needed and then bassy where required. The Sat Nav system is also very good. Took me a while to get it to talk to me. It just didn't want to and then without me doing anything (other than going for a wee at the services) I hear the dulcet tones on the way back on to the M40. Weird. I can't get the night setting to work though which was a bit annoying as it was a bit bright once it got really dark.

Whoever said to get the lumber support; I owe you a pint. Spot on. They make all the difference and I really like the bolster button to tighten them up. Like the Sport button on the RS4. The leather is nice too. Prob not as soft as the Audi Napper Leather (it's not meant to be) but somehow I prefer it. And Oyster works so well with LMB.

The iPod system is a bit fiddly to get working. And I've found out my usual iPod isn't compatible (too old) so I'll need to go for a drive to buy a new one in the week (damn!). Got vodcasts playing through the iPhone though which was really nice. Not tried a DVD yet.

Finally, the thing that impressed me most was the lines of the car. While I waxing it I just fell in the love with all the little contours. Esp around the rear bumper and the front grill. I know that's the m sport kit but it's still bloody nice. And the way the bonnet has the lines in the middle. They look amazing from inside the cabin.

In summary, I'm utterly in love. I can't wait for tomorrow just so that I can get out there. And all this fun and I've just clocked up 47mpg on the way back down. How does life get any better.

I know I'll get sledged for not putting photos up. I'll get round to that tomorrow. I've got a meeting at 8am so I really just get some sleep as I've not had any for about 3 nights now!

Thanks to all for your supportive comments in the run up to delivery and while I was speccing it out. So glad I went and got it now. It would've been a horrible shame to keep that beast caged up any longer than necessary.

Will update more as I learn more over the coming weeks. Photos to follow tomorrow.

Phil

Ok - just one. I hope this works . . .

Haha yes. I hadn't realised she was there. She'll kill as I dragged her out of bed to give me a lift. As you can see she was that interested she was still texting!
