GAP cover

Chaps

The inevitable conversation about GAP cover has started.

I'm after 4 years with £20k return to invoice cover. I think that's sensible.

Do you guys tend to buy from the dealer you buy the car from or do you go down the internet route? If you use the internet who do you use and (hopefully not) has anyone ever had to use it and how was the service?

If you've bought from a dealer, what's the best price you've had for the given level of cover?

Advice / thoughts appreciated as always.

Phil

I think for what it is the GAP cover is probably worth getting from BMW them selves. Oh and for the price of it the Tyre cover is pretty good value. iirc it cost less than one tyre would (unless you don't plan on keeping the RFTs)

Without wanting to go off topic, what's this tyre cover all about?

its pure bullshit IMO...

they will try everything to reject a claim....

Avoid a company called Auto Protect at all cost....

and you have to have the service carried out by BMW dealership....all service!...

and its 1 claim per tyre/ corner....i.e if you get a puncture in your right front tyre and they replace it....then if you happen to have a second puncture "same location", ie right front tyre, then your not covered!....

and trust me, you go thru a lot of shit before they actually agree to replace a tyre!!!...

NOT WORTH IT.

Def buy GAP online rather than from your dealer unless your dealer is matching an internet quote. They will quote you probably £500 for what you can buy online for £150

...and this.

I went to see my dealer a week or two after picking my car up to ask about the 5 year inclusive service thing and GAP. We looked at the service deal and agreed it was good value for me. I told them about the price I'd had from ALA for GAP and they told me to go for it.

If you get any naysayers regarding GAP then they've obviously never been in a position to need it. I have and make sure all our fleet have it.

BMW have changed the insurance company they used for tyre insurance due to the complaints. It is now simply a certain number of tyres within the period of cover. It is not one tyre per corner. I know, I have it and replacing a tyre yesterday was going to be no issue ... but it wasn't damaged as I thought so stayed on.

I paid £300 for the tyre insurance - they originally quoted I think £450 ... got them to £300 but he simply wasn't interested in going lower - I walked ... he didn't come running for business so I phoned them later and took out the policy

BMW GAP can be pretty cheap ... if they want to sell it to you ! I got 20k cover on RTI for 3 years at £210 ...I told them my internet quote and they tried to match it.

Definately get the GAP and BMW matched the price I got on-line.
The tyre cover is worth having depending on the cost (haggle!). I got it for my M3 and have had two tyres replaced with no problems.

Never buy GAP from BMW unless they match, as above. They quoted around £500 for my new F10 but ala did it for £127.

Any idea if you can cancel GAP cover once taken out with a dealer?

Another recommendation for ALA here.
£25k of GAP cover for circa £200
