Hankook V12 or General G-Max?

hello all - looking for opinions... i have a new set of wheels waiting for tires, and i just can't decide between these 2.

on the one hand, i say Hankooks since i have a beater Subaru for the upstate NY winters. these are proven to be quality tires, and this is obviously backed by many members on this forum. the Generals seem to have very good initial reviews, but they haven't been out that long.

on the other hand, i say Generals since the Subaru is not the most reliable car and has issues when driven distances longer than my work commute (which is only about 30 miles roundtrip LOL). for this reason, the Generals are a "safer" pick especially for the area that i live and would allow me to drive my E90 essentially year-round. since i have the Subie, i do not have a dedicated winter setup for the E90 at this point.

thoughts?

I am about to buy tires too since my rims will be in tomorrow I was trying to decide between these same tiresit only snows a few times a year and it's not much so I was leaning towards the hankooks but the few times it does snow I only have 1 car so I'd be stuck using summer tires in the snow. The gmax seem good too and I'm liking the higher treadwear rating. There both around the same price with the gmax costing a little more.

Not sure how I missed these, but these are definitely in the mix now too. Only slightly more expensive than the others.

Get the DWs. Check the ratings on tire tack. That's what I got, and so far they are great. They ride nice, handle great, and are wearing evenly.

Meh.. I think I realize why I cant buy Continental tires and will stick with the Hankooks. It's because of the name... "Continental".. that's just an ugly, most non-sporty name for a company.. and sounds very old man-ish..

They can be great tyres.. but the name bothers me.. It's like hiring a stripper for a bachelor party with a name like "Meredith".. Meredith the stripper.. Meh.. Give me Candy or Jewel.. Know wahimsay'n??

I see what you mean, but I think Hankook is a much worse name. Sounds like some cheap brand made in vietnam or something.

The Conti's include the road hazard warranty which is a great plus.

I would say GMax.

1) they are made by Continental (which are use as OEM tires on highend cars)
2) tread rating is good
3) great reviews on tirerack.com

I'm extremely disappointed in my straight line traction with the hankooks (hancraps).

Will not buy again.

In the turns they are very nice.

Half price but super loud. I have a set on my car and my dad has a pair on his E350, tires are loud on both cars. However, they do grip and wear nicely..

Are you absolutely sure that they were the Extreme Contact DW? I have tested a few different sets of these over the past two years on E92 cars at different wear intervals and they have all been smooth and quiet riding.

I was wondering the same, because mine are not loud by any means. I have them in the stock sport sizes, 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. The runflats were def louder.

May I recommend Falken 452's? They are one of the best set of tires I have ever owned. Great tread wear, even wear, quiet, inexpensive, and they handle well on the track. And if it matters, Falken sounds better than all those names

That being said, I would put them on again in a heartbeat but I'm going to try out the Bridgestone RE-11's next.

My V12s feel like they roll over the edge a bit on the track. Very unnatural feeling.

For the same price range I think I will be going Nitto NT555 next. Great reviews.

I LOVE my V12s. Silent, stiff wall, very good traction on water (but still my first summer with them). So far so good. Probably the best tire i've ever worn.

I think that's the tire that is the most popular on this forum; closely followed by Michelin's PS2.
