Personal Plates
Hey,
Been toying with the idea of a personal plate for a while now, and think im going to pull the trigger on something soon, i just like the way they make the car a wee bit different tbh I don't plan on get something shite, that spells a name (W4NK3R) just something with my initials on perhaps.. unsure though So my full initials are CJMT, so could go for either CJT or CMT i guess? there is a C1 JMT avail, but it's c.£3k i'll prob end up with something like Y9 CJT, even though the Y9 part is completely meaningless Just after peoples thoughts / opinions really.. |

I really don't get these plates when they mean absolutely nothing to anyone else.
Some just use a plate as cover for the age of the car. The good plates that either resemble a persons name, the car or are amusing all cost a fortune. Spending £250-£500 on a plate for the sake of it does not work for me. I'd love K3RRS and it was on sale a few months back. It was up for £10-11,000 but there is no chance I would go that far. |

yeah £10k is just nonesense
for me though, it's just about having a non-normal plate, as everytime i see one on another car it makes me think that about why the owner chose that / what it means to them / how it does actually make the car stand out.. having a dateless plate is a bit of a nice bonus too ofc |

I'd go for it. I have been really pleased with my £249 plate and just wish that I had bought the next number up for my other car

I thought about getting one. My wife has the day of her birthday and her initials, she had it before I met her so I suppose she had to marry someone with a surname that started with M .
I actually prefer cryptic initial plates to ones that try to make words using numbers. I'm thinking about getting PM03 WAT as my name is P Mowat. I like the fact it doesn't look like a private plate and would made my car look older than it obviously is (model wasn't being made then). |

got 2 in our family, me and my sister have them. Worth buying but only if you really really want it and its a decent plate. Most of these prefix ones are crap, and they look crap too. Far better off going to an auction and waiting for a bargain, they come up eventually.

I think opinion is divided over personalised plates and there is a fine line over looking ok and very tacky.
If you have to manipulate your plate to look like a word or name,IMO most of the time it looks terrible and a bit desperate. I have a personalised plate-just my initials in the S- --- format.Only cost £250 and is a bit of fun and doesn't look that bad! You do get what you pay for,so if you don't want to pay loads of cash, there are lots of cheapo plates that don't look quite right-initials seem to look ok and can be bought for realistic prices. There was a documentary a few years ago of the envy between the owner of N2GEL and N1GEL. Some people see plates as a status symbol(!) as was evidenced in this programme and they cone with a bit of a stigma attached. It's very much a personal choice! |

Got my wife hers a few years back - E3 (just because E and 3 look good together) and her initials. As someone else mentioned, should have got others at the same time...
Had a look the other day - think it was a thread on here that made me do it!! - and found E18 and my daughter's initials so bought that ready for her next birthday (18!) and then went for it and got my son E18 and his initials too, even though its 6 years to his 18th!!! Will make a nice little collection on the drive, and the numbers will always mean something to the kids. I've got nothing!!
