E92 iPod options for someone without Bluetooth or iDrive
My 2007 328i Coupe only has the Aux-In plug in the center armrest (no USB). I would prefer to have single Apple-style cable that charges and connects the iPhone to the car. It would be even better if this cable were routed to the ashtray (especially if it were in the form of a dock).
How are other people connecting their iPhone to the car when not equipped with Bluetooth or USB? Thanks! |

grab an extra ipod and fill it with your favorite music. Put it in the armrest and forget about it. Keep it on shuffle. It's always charged and always playing your favs

Sorry bro... you have no other option. That audio system sucks... ive got it. VP electric makes a plug and play upgrade. I've only heard awesome things about it. I would check them out for sure.

Am I able to purchase a Y-Adapter that combines the following into an iPod 20-pin connector that will both charge my iPhone and connect to the iPhone via Aux-In?
Aux-In USB power adapter in the 12V socket I understand that BMW Y Adapters exist, but I think they were designed for vehicles with USB (rather than a USB power adapter in the 12V socket)? I don't expect to gain access to the iPhone via the factory head unit controls, but I just want to make it so that I only need to plug in one iPod cable rather than both an iPod cable (for charging) AND an Aux-In cable for a music connection. Ideally, I would have the iPod cable coming out of the ashtray since that is a good place to prop up my iPhone when using Navigation. Would this cable work? http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-iPod-Adapter...#ht_500wt_1156 Alternatively, is it possible to rig up a USB slot in my ashtray such that, when my iPhone is plugged into the USB port, will connect to the Aux-In and charge the iPhone? Thanks! Last edited by vifferfun; 07-20-2011 at 09:10 AM.. |

I have tried a number of solutions. Many have SQ issues as they have inline capacitors that affect dynamic range or introduce noise.
From a SQ and simplicity standpoint. This is what works the best for me http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0031U1AU0/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/181-7006805-4813660 |

You can also try the Kenwood KOS-A300. Here's a video of it installed in a 3-series: . I would do a similar thing except I would put the screen in the ashtray area. |

Thanks so much guys -- exactly what I was looking for! The Kenwood KOS-A300 looks really neat, and is very cheap. I wish the display was a little nicer though. It looks like it's the perfect size to be mounted in the ashtray.

Does anyone have any experience with this unit, that will basically allow you o stream music to the Aux-In using bluetooth? This sounds like something that would work perfect for me It's called the "TuneLink" by New Potatoe, and retails around $100:
