Wheel Gods I need your help: 2 piece disassemble

Dear Wheel Gods of e90post.com,

I recently came across 2 sets of 17" BBS RS 740 rims for a very very low price. The car project side of me couldn't resist the $80 price tag so I took them. The only down side is that there is some oxidation on the rims but they easily come off with some sanding. But in order for it to be easier to sand/paint I want to take them apart. From my understanding these are truly a 2 piece design. After taking off the bolts the dam center still does not come off. Any suggestions?

PS please don't crush my dreams. I'm doing a orange lip with a black center piece design.

I will upload pictures. My phone is being difficult

Yeah, pretty much all 2pc wheels have the centers welded in. The only way to get them apart is to cut them apart and re-weld them when done.

hey, just a quick question: how are you removing the oxidation exactly? I have a set of BBS wheels that have that as well. Is there a DIY guide anywhere?

I'm just sanding everything down before I repaint them. Start off with a more aggressive sand paper.

Heres a good DIY that I saw a couple months ago.

But I'm thinking of making one of my own lol

Your wheels are Style 42 OEM 2 piece wheels,

They are easily disassembled but may require some muscle when oxidized like yours.

once you have all the bolts out use a rubber mallet to and hit it a few time with vigor ( I've seen some guys actually standing on them and putting their full weight), if the wheels are really stuck you may need to heat them up using a blow torch.

These wheels do not need a sealant for reassembly and can be disassembled with the tires mounted

EDIT

I just re-read you first post and and saw you're going for orange/black finish (that should be interesting)

If you're rattle canning this independently of which paint you use I highly recommend you start with Duplicolor self etching primer as your base it will give you a perfect starting coat and finish things of with the Duplicolor wheel clear coat, it's the best for wheels

The answer I got was 22-24 Ft-Lb ... but I used only 15 Ft Lb as I cracked one bolt near 25 Ft-Lb ... yap

* Took me 60$ only to drill this thread to take it out . This is kind of titanium bolt , Machine Silver Shop did it
Still can't find this bolt , this is M7 bold with special head - if somebody has cracked wheel please sell me one bolt .
* I would not recommend to start this repair if you didn't have 1-2 bolts aside
* I would not recommend to torque if you didn't clean your bolt threads after repair .
* In case I will not find this bolt I will use one of my old wheels for repair so if you guys need some parts from BBS 42 style
( bolts, inner/outer rims ) let me know and I will consider it .
I think price will be 10$ for one bolt delivered - I am willing to pay it right now if somebody have this bolt !!
FYI : BBS don't sell it , BMW dealer don't have it, Ebay - don't sell it

I don't believe those oem bmw wheels are welded. That particular center will come out if you hammer the shit out of it ( with a small piece of wood ) on the back pad. Just place the wheel on some carpet or something soft face/front side down and go at it. Problem is that if it is super tight coming off, putting it together will suck.

I suggest just masking off and painting the wheel together, cause it might be the easier way to do it.
