Stick shift owners...how is your clutch holding up?

Anyone on aftermarket clutch yet? If so, at how many miles? If not, how many miles do you have? Any comments and opinions are welcomed!

I only have 2000 miles on my 335i, still grabbing fine. The only complaint I have is the occasional shatter or vibration feeling on the clutch pedal upon releasing it and stepping on the gas pedal.

I treat mine nicely. I should expect 60k out of mine. I dont really launch the car around town....too much abuse on the suspension and drivetrain. I prefer highway runs

Really? Mine drops revs like crazy on the highway...I granny shift so I have to give it a little blip between gears to avoid lurching the car.

You should drive my old 240. The stock flywheel on that car was a monster. Took forever for revs to come down.

Are you guys experiencing occasional shatter or vibration feeling on the clutch pedal as well? For me it happens off and on, some day it does, some day it doesn't. Besides that, everything else is a-OK.

some people are ridiculous wondering if the clutch is OK at 2k miles?!
It should hold fine at 122k miles if you know how to use it...
I changed clutch on my old Honda at 164k miles...

are you serious 2000 miles. it better still be good. if not that doesn't mean anything about the car it will just talk about the driver. Stock Clutches should go a longggg time. My buddy has a 1989 BMW 525 and its still on stock clutch with 175,000 miles. but if you lauch and shit at least 35-50,000

Actually look into modifying your CDV (clutch delay valve). There are some really good threads on this. It is suppose to smoothen the 1-2 shift. I already ordered and received mine, but I have not installed it yet. Hopefully in a few weeks I will install it.

I think with the CDV, clutch life is greatly reduced, even if you drive it like a pro. The 1989 didn't have the CDV. My friend has an E39 and just replaced his clutch & flywheel at 83,000. I had asked him about his experiences with the CDV and he didn't know anything about it, surprisingly. When I showed him some notes on it, a light bulb went off inside his head and then he realized why his shifts from 1-2 were never smooth.

I usually don't beat the crap out of a car but if I feel the clutch does not perform up to my expectations, I will remove the CDV.

I was wondering why my car felt like it was slow to release the clutch when I was shifting fast on the highway. I had no idea BMW had the CDV on this car (Im used to it on 240s and DSMs and what not, but BMW? lol)

I'll make that my next mod.

LOL, Honda clutches never die.

I'm posting because of the different driving styles here. If you launch the car, ie people who track, it will be significantly shorter. I have a friend who needed a new clutch at 4,000 miles...BAD. He tracked his car on a weekly basis. I almost needed a new clutch on my Evo before trading it in. That was at 28,000 miles and I drove it MILDLY.

With more power...ie 335i's with Procede, it will cause the clutch to die faster if driving with spirit, imo.
