Plasma or LED for new 60" TV?

Went to my local A/V store today fully expecting to be sold on an LED (Samsung's looked the best to me, but I wonder about the build quality).
But the salesperson said all the guys in the store only buy plasma - that LED is for suckers - more expensive and worse picture quality.
What do you guys think? tia

The salesperson told you the truth. LED is all marketing hype. Go with a Panasonic plasma and don't look back. If/when my Samsung plasma craps out I'm gonna replace it with another Panasonic (GT or something).

I found the opposite, I tried two different plasmas at first and hated the way HD channels looked on it so returned them and now have an LED.

No matter what you end up with, make sure they a good return policy.

Some TVs don't work well with certain cable boxes.

I learned to go with works in your own home setup and not pay attention so much to reviews and specs.

Depends where you're gonna watch it. If by a lighted area get the LED Samsung, the LCD. But I only have LCD's. Plasmas are dated and give terrible glares IMO.

this, I have a 50" plasma. If you're by an area that gets a lot of sunlight, it can get REALLY annoying.

Panny Plasma is the best TV on the market, Samsung makes great TV's, but Panny is winning at the moment.

Big plasma TVs have better black than big LCD TVs, it's pretty hard to argue that.

Plasma gets my vote for home theater. I use a 46" LED for third monitor - much clearer than plasma..but the dark movies look better on Plasma. Get what you like best in the store

Panny vt60 or even gt60. Going to pull the trigger on a 55" gt next week because I love my 50" panny g25 so much, had a 50" g10 before that.
Go with plasma, you'll love it!

I got a 60" Sony LCD. Didn't want to spend extra for an LED when I couldn't tell much of a difference in pic quality, especially when calibrated correctly. I would have bought a Panny plasma, but I have too many windows and didn't want to fight the glare. Plasmas have the best pic quality, don't have burn in issues anymore, but weigh more (if that's a concern).

I've had number of Samsung LED and Plasmas, from 46~58", all in PNC/PND/UNC series above 7000.

I must tell you plasmas do look better even in my high ceiling living room.
I like the pop on LED but I could get the same effect on the plasma and plasma does look 100% better on the movies. It just that white on plasma doesn't look clean as on LED.

But I do like 23watt consumption on LED compare to 53 watt on plasma, although it only comes out to be $3~5 different on monthly electric bill on 10 hours of playing time basis.

Also, 3D looks much better on Plasma.

+1, had good luck with all my Samsung LEDs...very good picture and never had a quality or reliability issue. I don't watch many movies, where I agree the plasma is probably the better option there (provided the correct lighting as has been mentioned already). When I do watch a movie though, I've never once thought "man this would be so much better on a plasma"
