Seatbelt Butler + Aluminum Trim = Disaster!!!
i just noticed today from the beutiful weather that there are little scratches and marks on my aluminum trim from the doors. after observing it, it is actually my seatbelt that is causing this. anyone else have the same problem when removing their seatbelt just "let go" and then the metal part bangs on the trim leaving a scratch or peeling?

Yes, I've only had the car one week and I have also noticed that the aluminum piece that holds the seatbelt is extremely delicate. It also collects fingerprints.

Check this out. It is a seatbelt holder for the 335i Coupe in the accessories section of bmwusa.

I just adjusted the resting position of the buckle to a high position ( you move the little black stopper up or down on the seatbelt, and mine has never touched the trim in over 12 onths of having the car.

I noticed that the first few days of having the car. After that, I raised the buckle and dont let the seatbelt just fly to the back. No more scratches. Besides, I plan on changing the trim anyways, so its not that big of a deal.

aluminum is not a good choice. It looks cheap and it is not durable...my .2 cents

It doesnt look cheap. The "wood" looks cheap, especially the lighter ones. Alum is sporty compared to the other trims.
Although I do admit that if Piano was available, I woulda got that instead.

I posted this a while back, but if you look closely, teh seatbelt assistant, wears out the leather that is right next to it, when the little "hook" slaps in and out of the holder...

Why is this such a big mystery to people? Move the black plastic stop, bingo...NO scratches! I have absolutely no scratches on my 7 month old aluminum trim. My seatbelt never even comes close to touching my trim.

Jaguar S-Type R for one. My Aluminium trim is perfect. No problems at all. Pristine. Just takes a modicum of care, as with any trim. D.

You're obviously either incredibly stupid or you're being sarcastic. I happen to believe it's the former.

Are you sure it's not happening when you're taking the seat belt off? I know I've accidentally sort of tossed it off a time or two. My belt doesn't even come close to the door when the butler presents it.

you're right on it. it's when the belt flies off that it hits the door not when the butler delivers it.
also, Piano Black finish is availavle, only at a premium.

Its just a car dont panic... My old E46 had AL trim and after a few years it looked like someone shoot the edge of it with a pellet gun thousands of times. My current E90 with AL trim all ready has a few marks from the belt.. It happens when you unbuckle the seat belt flys across you and the metal part his the AL when its being retracted.
But again its just a car dont panic.... |

The only bad thing about this option is having to remove the belt from the holder every time someone needs to climb in the back. |

+1 Same here. I also advise my passengers to carefully release the seatbelt as well.
