335i vs. Shelby GT-H
So I am stopped at sunset at a red light at around 12pm when I see this GT-H make a left infront...My light turned green and I blasted off to try and ketch him. When I pulled up really close behind him I flashed my lights and like a bat ouuta hell he blasted off (as did I). Then we stopped at a red light next to UCLA. I looked at him, Held the DTC for 5 and REVed it to 1300ish..and blasted off...We were both spinning a bit but I managed to pull a half car length infront...then he let off the gas, broke, and made a left turn......dissappointing.
I seriously had him...would he have taken me if we cont. throught the windy turns towards the I405? BTW the hertz sounded gooood. |

yeah clarkson said what's the point adding a supercharger if you don't change the breaks or susp at all!!! the rousch is much much better i think it has 40-60 les hp but when they dynoed the shelby it only had 450 so hammond wrote in marker "almost" on the side after it says"shelby gt 500"... the car had soooooo much understeer it was incredible!!! the rousch beat it by over 2 seconds i think!!!

Yes, I think we're getting mixed up here. The GT-H has 325HP. It is slightly hopped up GT. The Shelby GT-500 does have 500HP and a supercharger.
I'm a huge fan of TG and Clarkson but I was 'flabbergasted' to hear that apparently they have no idea of the differenve between stated HP and WHP.

I have a relative with a GT-500. Say what you will, but no 3 Series is going to catch that car.

GT-500 is alot of fun to drive. I Had a 95 COBRA twin turbo 351w with 612rwhp and before i bought the 335I i was looking at the GT500, and that car is a beast. It Drives like a BAT out of hell. But i just felt that i wanted to keep the COPS away from me for a couple of years, and the BMW is alot easier to drive on the track.

I had an '05 GT before the 335. The GT-H is the same car with an intake, tune and 3.55 gears (instead of 3.31). I believe they are all automatics as well. My GT had an intake, tune, 4.10 gears, a Borla catback and manual tranny. I think that car (modded) with against my 335 (w/ PROcede) was a close fight in the first 2 gears. After that my 335 would run away from it, no doubt. The Stangs weigh about the same, launch really well on sticky rubber but run out of breath as speed climbs.
My GT was pretty fast, fun and sounded great but I couldn't take the clunking, vibrating and uncomfortable seats any longer. On to greener pastures! |

In regard to the GT-500.....
Being a previous Mustang owner, I've been following the GT-500 closely. Frankly, I think it's a disappointment. Too heavy, mediocre handling and virtually unobtainable. Dealers are still gouging for $10-15K over. IMO, If you're going to drop $60K on a car you want more than a dressed up GT with a big motor. |

We almost bought a GT when shopping for the 330. Problem was that in late 2005, no dealers had them and if they did they were selling at sticker.
Since we always lease the wife's car, we looked into that and the lease payments were greater than traditional financing. I kid you not. That was not the reason we didn't get the GT, we were coming out of a couple of nice Volvos and the GT's interior was umm...lacking. Typical American plastic and pretend chrome. It moved out though!

I was coming home from work and a Shelby pulled in front of me from a side street, his vanity plates read "1BADGT" . So I was praying for a red light and got one. I pulled up next to him and laughed. We both hit the throttle he got the jump on me and was about a car length in front of me, but the 335i midrange is just awesome I caught him and we were dead even going to a big rounding bend, I accelerated a little more and got in from of him in the bend, the guy hit the brakes so hard and mustangs body roll was so bad that in the bend he came into my lane, thank goodness I was past him. I beat him to the next stop light. He pulled up next to me and gave me a thumbs up and rolled down his window. I asked him if that the mustang with 500 hp, "He replied, I thought it was" He asked me what I had under the hood, and if it was stock. I told him twin turbos and yeah it is stock. I could see that he was shocked about how quick my car was. He turned off and I went home. I was so excited I told my wife about the whole incident so I have already been yelled at. I still find it hard to believe that my car is quicker than the Shelby. I have told a couple of people and they don't believe me. Guys how does a 300 hp 335i beat at 500hp Shelby Mustang? Bad driver?

^^ all it takes is a good night of sleep, and dream that your BMW can actually get in front of a shelby cobra. There is just no comparison, and trust me those cars can turn. You make it sound like the wheels fell off when he attempted to make a turn. |

That is the thing about it, I had already caught up to him before the turn, I passed him in the turn. And the wheels did almost fall off for him in the turn. With all due respect those cars cannot turn.

LOL...Why becaused you watched TOP gear and they said it cant. Go to the track and you will understand!!!
A friend of mine At PDA performance driving school has one, and i drove it around the track and that thing is a beast. A little to much oversteer, but if you expect it, it can be alot of fun to powerslide around your BMW. But i also admit that it takes a SKILL driver to drive the thing to its full potential. |

The body roll is probably it. He wasn't prepared to take that speed into the corner. Even though the Shelby is capable of taking a corner like that, the driver probably wasn't comfortable. Most of us who have driven those cars agree that their handling doesn't inspire confidence. But they should EASILY be faster in the quarter mile, or the rolling start quarter mile, etc. than a stock 335 i.
