Insured?

Does anyone know how I would go about checking the insurance status of a neighbours car? I seem to remember someone mentioned they produced evidence to the police when they were pulled on suspicion of no insurance. Does anyone know how I access that database or what it's called.

Iirc it's an offence to obtain that info on a vehicle that you don't own/have access to drive etc. Worth knowing if you intend on using Askmid as your evidence at the cop shop..

My company car is not listed on that database, could it be on a group policy.

Unlikely.
It's an R-reg Mazda MX3 shitbox and the driver passed her test about 18 months ago. I heard the car running rough (on about 4 cylinders) last week and she's abandoned it at the side of the road.

She's since replaced this with a shitbox (spot a pattern emerging here?) S-type Jag but left the Mazda on an already-overcrowded street.

She's moved personal effects from the Mazda (pink seat covers , her "Powered by fairy dust" sticker etc) so it's unlikely the Jaaaaag is a loaner.

I find it highly unlikely someone of that age can afford to insure two cars at once, especially cars of that insurance group. Sure as eggs is eggs, the Mazda is showing as uninsured.

Under current regs any car that isn't declared SORN must be insured.

If she were more considerate about how she parked when the car were roadworthy I'd be more lenient about how it was parked when stranded, but seeing as she wasn't, I shan't be.

New law came on to statute this week which means unless a car is sorned it has to be insured enforcement is done by dvla. Hence if the vehicle is in the name of the person they will get a fine through the post.

It could but it would still show as insured on the MID.

If it is coming up uninsured then sooner or later you will pass though an ANPR check and will get stopped. Chances are somebody has not done the paperork right but it is easily fixed.

Contact your fleet department first thing, tell them that MID shows no insurance and get them to sort it otherwise you run the risk of your car being seized at the side of the road (just like on TV)
