ABS and DTC error - yellow light - sigh

Just filled up with a new tank of gas today at the gas station. Then the ABS and DTC error popped up - yellow lights and obviously the ABS system was gone requiring more brake pedal travel.

Called BMWHK and they told me that they can't schedule a service till next week?! Thats ridiculous.

Not to mention that my car is out of warranty. I wonder how much it'll cost to get fixed.

BMWHK Major Ripoff!

Arghhhhh! BMW HK has quoted $36k to replace the ABS module/pump. Thats ridiculous! The car is less than 4 yrs old and the ABS module problem is a known 'lemon' in all E90s and other BMWs.

Does anybody have a similar experience? Can someone recommend a good outside garage for me to get this fixed or replaced?

Wow... did you ask for discount for the parts! normally they do give discount to the customer who do check up and oil change in BMWHK.

Whoa, they are really charging you alot. I agree, try a local garage. The only reason to go to BMW HK is if they are the only ones who have the parts or expertise to fix something, but nowadays, you've got many choices. BMW HK is known as the most reliable but also the most expensive option, don't go unless you really have no other choice. I'll look up some choices for yah.

At the end they are willing to give me a discount of 80% off - which means that I still have to fork out about $7000 myself. sigh. So caved in and will be able to pick up my car next week.

Deep inside I sorta want them to charge an extortional amount so I will decide not to get it fixed, sell it and get another car.

But anyways ...

Haha! You want a reason for getting a new car? You still need to fix it before sell it, no one will buy a broken car! At least I won't!

How did you manage to get a 80% discount?! Maybe you work in sales and you know how to talk to them? haha. From my experience, sure, they might you a tiny discount here and there, but trying to get any big discounts from BMW HK is like asking Bill Gates or Warren Buffett for their credit card number! hahaha

That's a load of b.s from BMW HK if you asked me. They are pulling your leg. A bimmer is designed to handle spirited driving, so going a little fast every now and then should not be a problem. Unless your Dad is driving the bimmer in a abusive way, then otherwise it should not have such issues.

Same Problem

I go for a local garage, saying that it will cost a lot to fix it...Better go to BMW as normally they can offer discount for parts, but for workmanship will not have.

ABS/ DTC... totally 3 lights turn on.

Crazy ....

Wow you got a huge discount ... what did you do? Hopefully it did not involve giving someone a happy ending ...

Good luck with everything. I just got my car out of BMW for a DME replacement on an 2007 335. Cost me 35k including new coils.

And then someone decided to hit the side of my car and put a nice size dent in her.

Thanks!

I didn't really have to do much and didn't really negotiate either. But I did make it clear to the SA that I am fully aware of the ABS/DTC problem that all recent BMWs have as evidenced in various online discussions and chat groups.

My advice is to make sure that they know what you know!

Same Problem

My 323i is just 4 years old and has the same problem yesterday. BMWHK asked $32000 for the part plus labor. How can I get a major discount from them?

This is a common problem. I had mine happened in the 3rd year. Lucky I was under warranty and everything fixed without a penny....

I think you can argue that this is in fact a known problem of e90 and then BMWHK may fix it without any cost for you..
