Can professional HU power rear fill speakers?

WOuld like to replace my hifi amp with afternarket amp to power front door mids/tweeters and underseat woofers. Could I do this with a 4 channel amp and just power the rears with the head unit directly? Interested in this to avoid having to buy a 5 or 6 channel amp, but still have something coming from the rear deck. Thanks.

You would need a non-hifi head unit with speaker level outs, i would gladly trade with you. However. Just get a 6 ch amp. Youll be happier

Don't think so since the HU outputs balanced line-level signals to the amp. But I think you can get around this by leaving the HiFi amp in and only disconnecting the front pair of the balanced inputs from the HiFi amp, and leave the rear ones connected. I haven't seen this done but it should work...
