Angry My car is in ... But it is wrong!

I cannot believe this. Ordered a 328i on late Feb with the following:

6MT
Silver
Black Interior
Aluminum Trim
Comfort Access
iDrive
Xenon
Sirius

Well the CA calls me today and says

CA: "Hey your car is in! But did you order it with beige interior?"
Me: "NO!! Why would anyone order that!"
CA: Ruffles through our paperwork "Oh my God, they messed up the order"
Me: "Yup they did" I sold my car 2 weeks ago and I am dirving a rental at $120 per week.
CA: "Are you willing to wait another 6 weeks?"
Me: "NO!! There is no way I am going to continue to pay for this rental when my car is supposed to be here now"
CA: "Ok, let me talk to the sales manager"

WTF!??? How does something as big all the color of all the interior pieces get through the whole factory wrong? I suspect, of course, the CA.

Right now I am waiting to hear back from him. Ill keep you guys updated...

Geez that suxx, i heard these things could happen and i kept my fingers crossed that my combo would be accurate. Make them lend you this car for 6 weeks until you get the one you actually ordered!

Not the factory

Your salesman or someone at your dealer entered it into the build system wrong

Did you by any chance confirm your selections with either the OC or the BMWNA 800# after you received your production number?

I'd go crazy, make them either:
- pay for the whole (previous wait and next 6 weeks wait) rental
- or give you the 335 at Invoice price...

But the deal has to be reached...

That sucks. At the very least they should give you a nice loaner while your new car is being built. Sounds like you're really not a fan of beige, but the other option might be to get some kind of additional discount on the purchase price and take the car with the beige interior.

CA: "Hey your car is in! But did you order it with beige interior?"

he admitted to his mistake in the first line of conversation...

Everyone reading this should take note and double-check. I know you shouldn't have to, but screwups do happen.....

Tell him you will drive the one they just got in until they can get your order correct.

Damn. Very sorry to hear this, and I hope the SM or GM comes up with a way to make it right. Even I wouldn't get beige with TiAG, and I like beige.

Your CA screwed up the order most likely. Almost impossible for the factory to make that mistake.

Too bad interior color doesn't show on the OC - but the 800# can tell you. I verified every single option with them more that once.

Let us know how things go for you. What a kick in crotch that is.

In reality I doubt they'll go for that - but they should put you in a loaner or a rental at their expense.

EDIT: Feel free to vent. You have our complete empathy!

+1 to double-checking with the 1800#. I ran into the situation where the system showed my order as having auto/Steptronic when I wanted 6MT. My CA kept assuring me that it would just take some time to update. Then my car switched to 150 status, and the 1800# STILL had auto. The BMWNA guy basically said i'm SOL and would need to call my CA right away.

I got ridiculously lucky in that while yes, the CA screwed up entering it into the production system, he was able to get me quickly back into the queue with another production number that really only resulted in a week delay, and I was also able to add CA and iPod to the order.

Moral of the story: I lucked out, but it was only because of persistent inquiries.

Good luck, brother!

How 'bout that. Mine never showed the interior. And since my change to lemon occured after the order was in the system, I was paranoid. I made them verify it a couple of times.

P.S. But I had to scroll through my options list.

typically when we have someone order we fax them or hand them a copy of the build sheet and they then initial it. your CA should have done that... a simple CYA measure that also gives you a full copy of your build just in case you get worried when the options in the OC or 800# come up wrong. did he ever give you a copy of the build sheet?

They did this with my X5, it came with grey leather and Steptronic, and I ordered beige and manual...I kept my trade and made them give me the same amount despite the added mileage while I waited for the correct one to be built...

I just had the same thing happen, but I caught it before production. My CA wrote up the order correctly but put the order in the system incorrectly. I got an updated status/form letter from the dealership 2 days ago that showed steptronic trans and paddle shifters. I ordered the 6 Manual Trans. I called him and he updated the system and apologized about 5 times. I am going to call the 800# and have a live person read back the options to me to confirm they are correct.

I highly recommend everyone call the 800# before you are even close to production to make sure there is not an error.

My options list had 16 items

Only 1 of which was the M Sports pack, which itself contains 11 sub items

Then again, its because we get almost nothing standard and pay for all options
