Who here went from E46 M3 to M Coupe/Vert?
Hi,
Are there people here who switched over from E46 M3 to the new M Coupe or Vert? I've test driven both but couldn't really red-line either one. Overall, I was pretty impressed with both vehicles but the vert did seem to have little more body flex...barely noticable. One thing I was looking for was the "light footedness" since these cars are about 200lb less than (with Coupe being little heavier than the vert) my M3. However, I have to say I barely noticed this "light footedness" if any (again, this may have to do with the fact that I didn't really push the car to what it's actually capable of). One thing that is stopping me from pulling the trigger right away is (1) I don't think I've driven enough of my M3 yet (03 with just over 23k miles only on weekends) and (2) it's just a beautiful car (not that M Coupe/vert isn't pretty) and I happened to really like my color combo (steel gray/imola red int). I guess I'm still emotionally attached to my M3. and (3) the "rumor" of upcoming M Coupe/Vert with E92 M3's V8 (Now that's an interesting thought!). Which I don't think is a too much of a stretch, since BMW has done simlar thing before with last gen M Coupe/Vert. Anyways, for those who have much more seat time than I (and who pushes this car 8/10 on a daily basis ), how do you like it (especially when it comes to the "light footedness" or "nimbleness?" in comparison to M3? Any in depth insight/insight will be appreciated. TIA |

As far as light footedness goes, I haven't driven an M3, but the M coupe is very nimble. Weaving in and out of cars happens almost as fast as I think about it. The stearing is very responsibe along with the throttle (throttle is even more responsive in "sport mode") and it launches great as well, provided you turn dsc off...
The car is also capable of some very tight turns, i hit 270 degree turn on ramp hard yesterday and it stuck like glue, kinda felt like a roller coaster turn. It's just an awesome car. Like I said, before, I haven't ever driven an M3, but with the weight and stiffness advantages of the M coupe I can't imagine the M3 keeping up with it on a track like the Nurburgring or any other road course |

Honestly-
A 2003 with 23k miles doesn't really sound like you're "emotionally attached" to your M3. As a weekender with a rag top, the Z4M would be my top pick, ahead of e46 and e92 M3. Why? It's just a more fun, off the cuff car compared to the M3. A Z4M vert is the weekend car, hands down. imho of course. |

I can understand the emotional attachment to the M3, and even though the M3 is a superior car in every technical way, I would submit tha the Z4 is a whole lot more fun. I think it would come down to what the car would be used for, if its for a daiy driver with some weekend spirited driving, I would stick with the M3. If its a pure leasure car go with the Z! |
