question re the maintenance icon 'exclamation mark'

Hi all,
Is it normal to have the maintenance icon, the exclamation point light turning on when you stick in the key in the ignition? The light goes a way when I put the car in drive. I took it to the dealership and they stuck the key in their computer and found nothing wrong with it. They said it's normal that the light always came on when you insert the key into the ignition. What do you guys think?

What does your owner's manual say?

As long as the warning light goes off, it's fine.

I don't get an exclamation mark on mine, but I get an extra gong because of a state inspection in 6 months

Go to BMWUSA.com, select the "owners" tab and then select "owner's manuals." You can download it there.

In general, a warning sign that pops up at startup and goes away immediately is nothing to worry about.
