Sunroof won't close!

My sunroof on my e92 won't close all the way. It leaves a few inches open but other than that the glass moves smoothly, but don't know what could be the problem, anyone else have this problem? What could be wrong?

You can try doing a reset on the sunroof: Press the 'tilt up' button, wait for sunroof to rise, continue to hold it, the sunroof will rise another 1/2", continue to hold the button, sunroof will go through the entire open and close sequence.

If that doesn't fix it, you'll probably have to go to the dealer.

I just had a problem like that on Thursday. Got a warning light on my dash and my moonroof wouldn't close. I held the center button for 1 minute let it do all it's motions and everything went back to normal.

If pressing the button method does not work, there's a manual or cranking method to close the sunroof also. Give us a report to how's it going on your end.

OP, didn't mention that the sunroof moves in small increments....which indicates it doesn't need to be re-initialized.

Have you checked the tracks? Make sure nothing is there. I had a friend who couldn't close his sunroof. I found an acorn in one of the tracks and it prevented the sunroof from closing all the way.

try resetting it. if that doesnt work, your local bmw dealership will ifx it. Thats what i did

can we buy crank from bmw? it always bothered me having that empty slot in the trunks tool kit, and it does talk about the crank in the manual.

Too bad we rely too much on electronics, a crank can be handy in certain situations (sunroof stuck during a thunderstorm for example)

Thanks guys! my sunroof was not quite all the way up in the fully closed position. back edge lower than roof by about an 1/8 of an inch. problem solved. Ignition must be on to do this.

Thank you my forum genius'! You saved my anxiety attack that's been happening for the last two months of seeing a 1/4" gap from flush and just coming out of warranty! All I saw were huge $$$$ when thinking of getting this fixed!

This reset has worked flawlessly!🙏🏻

Does anyone know why the calibration would have been thrown out initially???

I bought crank from Ecs, empty slot kind of bugged me too
