HELP! please... ABS, TPM, Traction, startoff assistance errors
Ok, I have the following lights on my e90 335i : ABS, Brake, and traction as seen in the photo... And in Idrive the following messages as seen in the photos: Avoid hard braking Tire pressure monitoring inactive Startoff assisance inactive The lights and errors come on and off while driving, seemingly when I reach a certain speed. I searched and came up with this being condusive with a wheel speed sensor malfunction.... but the dealership stated that its the passenger rear wheel bearing... they said "its loose" I have no noise coming from the bearing, and there is no play in the wheel whatsoever when I checked it... So my question is... what do you guys think? I have a BT tool, but for some odd reason it says it cant access or communicate with the abs system... Also, I can understand that one problem may cause the abs and traction control lights etc, but the tire pressure system seems like itd be completely unrelated to the other 2... Is it possible these all have a fuse in common? wishful thinking... Last edited by ArtVandelay; 05-06-2011 at 02:04 PM.. |

Put your hazards on and then try to access the abs module.

I had a similar issue with my 06 330I it was a bad rear wheel bearing and ABS wheel speed sensor that made it so the computer could not sense the wheel speed therefore the ABS, traction control and FTM did not work. My car uses the passive tire pressure monitoring system that senses wheel speed to determine tire pressure changes. Anyway it took the dealer three visits and about a week in the shop to figure it out and fix it.

This is how FTM works, why it sucks, and why the US mandated TPMS in vehicles equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (post March '07 for E9xs). |

if there is a noise coming from the wheel area i believe that could be a bad bearing, makes sense.

See my post in your other thread, but here it is as well:
You can check to see if your speed sensor is bad by putting a multimeter on it. What I did was disconnect the the electrical connector at the ABS computer. It's located under the hood, on the driver's side, and will have the brake lines going into it. Disconnect the eletrical connector. What you want to do is get a reading from each of you wheel speed sensors and see if they read differently from each other. I post below the pinouts for the e90's at the abs connector (located under the hood as I noted in my above post). Put a multimeter with really thin wire (20 gauge or so) to the pins on the connector to test the sensors. You want to use the diode setting on your multimeter. Again, the below link has tons of diagnsotic stuff, way more than most people will ever do. The basic advice on that forum is after checking wheel speed sensors, if they test good, is to send unit to get it repaired. The only place I found that will do our model (e90 with xi) is module masters in Idaho for $300. BTW, that forum is very long, over 13 pages of long posts. Super informative, though. I think I started posting my info on page 9, I think. Pin out: I've got an 07 e90 328xi and was trying this out. From what I found in Bentley's, it looks like these are the pin outs for my car: RF 6 and 18 LF 21 and 22 RR 19 and 31 LR 20 and 33 Link to ABS/DSC error forum: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=356272 |

Okay, here's a working link (at least it works for me):
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=356272 See post: #24 about location of sensors #30 about the location of the abs (pic is a e39, but ours is same location on the driver side) #48 has all the info you need to check out ABS/DSC, sensors, how to test, and tons of info #234 my post about e90 pin-outs. RF 6 and 18 LF 21 and 22 RR 19 and 31 LR 20 and 33 BTW, I posted my readings using 3 different multimeters and all were different, but each multimeter gave similar results amongst itself. What you are looking for is similar numbers across all 4 sensors. And although each multimeter gave different readings, my sensors are fine and work properly. |
