Seat retrofit question
My buddy wrecked his e90 yesterday, he has a black leather sport seat interior. Fortunately he is willing to sell them to me!
Problem is I currently have a leatherette non sport interior. I would only be swapping the front seats. My question is, would leather front seats be very different looking from the rear leatherette seats? I don't want a color shade difference in the car... Thanks!

Just a note that I have never seen a leather interior in an e90 before so I can not compare my leatherette to anything else.

Yeah, don't mix and match the interior. The texture and the look of leather are different than those of leatherette. Buy his back seat too. BTW, how is he able to part out? Insurance usually take possession of the wrecked car, because they part out the car themselves to recoup some money.

The reason I can take them is he did a front seat swap from non sport to sport, but he already had leather so it matched. He put his old front in for insurance.

Was his car 09+ with navi?? If so, I'll give him my CCC navi and cash for his CIC I-drive... =P

Well, what you can do for now is buy the front seats from him and source the back seat later.

The cars are 06 330i (OP's) and 07 335i (his friend's), both came with electric seats as standards. There are no manual seats in NA-spec. 330i/335i.

I just installed '08 leather power sport seats in my '07 with manual std. leatherette seats. I could have bought the fronts only but I decided to buy the rears also for a few hundred more. The leather has slightly larger grain pattern vs. the leatherette. From 3 feet away you can't tell, but the leather does feel different-softer. For me going from manual to power seats requires additional wiring to make the power seats work.
BE SURE--MUST--DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE UNPLUGING SEATS AND MUST RECONNECT THE SEATS BEFORE RECONNECTING THE BATTERY!! OR ELSE YOU WILL GET A AIR BAG LIGHT WHICH THE DEALER HAS TO RESET. |
