Please help!!! A/C problems ???

Sooo every time I turn my A/C on it smells like feet ... Nothing in my car has ever been wet I checked the filter under the hood and it's clean ... Is there another filter I need to check? If so , where???? Idk much about it ... Thanks

This has been discussed several times before, so do a forum search for more details (also try locker room or gym sock smell).


Short answer: If you run your AC when it's humid outside, water collects on the cooling coils as it dehumidifies the air. (Worse if you have the outside air damper open). Then you stop the car and jump out. Most will drain out to below the car, but not all.
If conditions are right, some mold or mildew will form, and the next time the fan comes on, ewwwwwww!
If that happens, max the fan and open a window for a few minutes and it will blow off.

The easiest way to avoid this is to make it a habit, when it's humid outside and you run the AC, to remember a few minutes before you shut down your car to de-energize the compressor (the A/C switch), so that the fan keeps running, but the coils warm up to room temp and the moisture will blow off, leaving a dry coil.
