In UK, this old b"£$%&d in a 7 series, with his wife and daughter was tailgaiting me leaving 1ft gap between mine and his car, I was going at 90 mph anyway. I let him pass after giving him the bird, he did that to about 12 people in front of me, then about 100 miles later, he was in traffic in the slow lane. I dont get absolute IDIOTS like that. one mistake, his poor wife and daughter are history....him, well one less prat on the road. Seriously, these type of thoughtless people should be jailed.

Ya, I hear what you're saying, SLOW drivers really need to pay better attention and move to the right. But I think the logic is flawed. One, the accidents at high speeds aren't somehow magically contained to the left lane. The family man in his minivan one lane over will die in flames as you bound all over the highway, rolling and impacting things all around you. Two, the Germans are subject to enhanced fines if they are involved in an accident over the recommended speed. Finally, speed is the NUMBER ONE factor in determining the danger of a highway accident. You don't typically die in a bicycle accident why? Cause you are going 5-10 MPH. But now, on a road engineered for 75-90 MPH traffic, you are doing 110. Its unsafe. I'm sorry if these type of facts bruise the ego, or whatever. Hey, I like to drive the shit out of my Bimmer, and am not a goody-two-shoes. But stuf like plowing through freeway traffic at EXCESSIVE speeds, putting innocent people in danger for nothing other than immature gratification is WRONG. Grow up. When you scoop your kid's brains off of a highway, tell me how you view the speeder who rear ended you while trying be "cool" and pass on the shoulder. Whatever may be said or flamed after this trying to defend or justify that type of behavior is total BS, fluff, and the rantings of mere children. You cannot explain this stuff away. There's no argument. There's opinion and fact. Did anyone actually listen to what the tough guy said and why he was so pissed?

You are still going faster than the speed limit so you are technically a "FAST" driver. Sure not as fast as a guy going 120, or even 90 in a 75 zone, but who's to say you should dictate what speed traffic behind you should go at?

The right thing would be, if it is safe, for you to move to the next lane to let someone pass and then go back into the left lane. The fact that you say you are going to slow down is just being passive aggressive which won't help the situation at all and is just as bad, if not make the whole situation worse.

Best to let the person pass and not add to road rage/aggressiveness if you can. In no way do I condone tailgating, but you should be aware if the person is coming up quick/flashes their lights to pass, and just let the person go ahead of you.

When I went to Germany in March, it was just completely organized, slow traffic to the right, fast traffic to the left, NO middle ground. If someone was coming up behind you and you were in the left lane, you are the one that must move over, even if you were going faster than the lane in the right... I know we aren't in Germany, but man traffic moved so much smoother than there even in areas where traffic was going 200kph in the left lane and 100 kph in the right lane.

Alas, it doesn't matter, I miss the roads in Germany and how the drivers there drove. I don't personally like driving that fast, and hate tailgaters, but I just prefer to move out of the situation instead of add to the problem. My motto, let them pass and go fast and they can be the person that the cops see first. :-)
