oil question

If the oil is rated to last 15k, why would they program the computer to let you go any more than 15k miles before a change? I had my oil changed at ~30k and was gonna change at 37500, but iDrive said there was still 10k left (at 38k now) before a change was needed. Would it be smarter to ignore the computer and just stick to every 7.5k?

Probably half the miles are long distance highway, I don't know if thats why the computer thinks the oil is lasting longer?

Not another one of these.

Where does it say that the oil is rated for 15k miles? Depending on your driving style, your CBS will alert you to an oil change anywhere from about 12k-18k miles.

30k km (or every three years) oil change intervals have been common in Europe for at least ten years and there are no reported issues as long as approved oils are used. There ARE many examples of high mileage cars here on the forum where the owners followed the CBS change interval without any issues.
