VENDORS! We need a fuel pump solution!
As we all know BMW has failed to provide a real solution to their HPFP failures. I see this as a huge position for an aftermarket company to make some serious cash. Why has no one stepped up to fill the void?
Im sure there is a lot I don't know about the actual problem, and you could reply and tell me why your company is not doing anything about it. The bottom line is, there are several thousand people that are or will be experiencing HPFP failures and need a solution besides another replacement pump. I personally would pay good money to never worry about my wife breaking down again. Im sure there are hundreds if not thousands of N54 (1,3,5, and X series) owners that would do the same. The younger crowd can rely on the dealer for another free bandaid, but I'd pay for a permanent fix! Bump this thread if you'd be willing to buy a fuel pump that doesn't fail, or if your a company that has something in the works. |

You realize it's not the pump if some people have multiple failures and other people don't have one at all.
That's just science. |

I can understand where you're coming from but it seems highly unlikely.
The problem is obviously a very complex one. If BMW, with its enormous R&D resources, vested interest, and vast amounts of component failure examples cannot find a cure after years of research, it seems highly unlikely that a small third party will be able to. Just the facts, but you can wish if you want to... ianc

Vert, that is hardly science. If we knew the details and circumstance's each of the failed pumps were subjected to (amount of ethanol, condition of low pressure fuel pump, amount of fuel flown through due to drivers demand) we could conclude something. But simply stating that some pumps didn't fail, therefor the pump is not to blame is not science. Those pumps could have had it easier in life, seen no ethanol, or had a perfectly working LPFP. Either way, the point of this thread isn't to blame the pump. I could have assumed incorrectly that its the pumps fault, I admit, I have no evidence of that. Just like you have no evidence the pumps are not to blame. I don't care what part of the HPFS is at fault, I was just trying to create some interest in a couple of vendors to do something about it.
So not only is there no interest, there's also no hope... |

Come again?
VENDORS! We need a fuel pump solution! <---- Thread Title Back in 08 and 09 threads titled like "I want to drive 100 miles tomorrow but im afraid of the pump failing" and each one of them was unfounded and ridiculous. There are far more N54 cars with 100K miles on them without engine problems then there are individual cars that have had a pump failure. Many people who have failed pumps go on to have multiple failed pumps. That tells me one thing, its not the pump. Its a part that doesnt get changed during a pump replacement that causes the pump to fail. That is drawing a logical conclusion from given data...and that is science. |

I will chime in.
A good friend of mine drives a Vishnu 135i, almost 50,000 on the clock, tracks the car, lives here in Georgia (ethanol state) and has yet to have a fuel pump issue. . BMW, like all companies outsource a lot of the components found in their cars. The HPFP is one of them. The manufacturer and BMW are working on a solution, but it's not as simple as re-designing a pump - obviously this has not worked since they have gone through a lot of re-designs. Let's hope they figure it out

Recall on fuel injectors
Hey I was called in for a fuel injector recall and got my car back today. My car feels amazing, they told me they replaced 3 fuel injectors of the 6 that are in my 135i. I've only had my fuel pump fail on me during last summer for a week straight and the dealer replaced the fuel pump and extended my engine warranty to 9 years. I was one of the first to get a one series I ordered it online before it was even released back in Sep 2007 and I've never really had problems with the fuel pump, my biggest problem with the car was the oem tires and rims.
