Angry Software upgrade leads to problem with bluetooth phone flaw

My ride has its software upgraded by the dealer recently - it now has:

Software support for external devices:

Multimedia: MX-003.004.031
Telephone : TX-003.004.031

When the first call of a journey is received, I could not use the phone button on the steering wheel to take the call and had to use the iDrive controller instead. Subsequent calls are alright and can be answered from the steering wheel phone button. I have deleted and re-paired my mobile (BB Torch 9800) to no avail. Incidentally, the upgrade DID NOT allow the OFFICE function with the BB Torch 9800

Just wondering if anyone has the same software and problem?

That is so right.
The promissed but not available IT possibilities of the cars are a reason to easily forget these wise words.
I am appalled by the undelivered functions by BMW NL.
And it seems quite impossible to find some help in getting the promissed functions to work.

How did youfigure out the software versions?

Best Man..........lets walk through some questions I have.

1) Why did the dealer upgrade your software? Did they give you a reason or just do it?
2) Did you have full office functionality before the upgrade. (Did everything absolutely work without any glitches before?)
3) What do you mean by the statement that the upgrade did not allow for the Office function? Does this mean that you no longer have "Office" in the main menu? or that the office feature does not work with your phone?
4) Did you go back and verify under "Options" on the i-drive when you see your paired phone.....that Office is "check marked"? Do you see "Offfice" in this options menu?
5) Are the Bluetooth functions properly check marked on your phone?

Sorry for what may be dumn questions above, just wnat to make sure I understand everything completly and that we somehow figure a way for you to get your Office back.

I read the threads on what you paid for your car. If anyone deserves this to work Flawlessly....it is you my friend.

Also interested to know if anyone else with latest software has this issue. Mine is to to be recoded next week to fix the DAB issue ideally want to fix one issue and not introduce new ones.

It is possible that you might be able to apply a fix when available for the call answering bug (if BMW confirm) yourself as the media updates for stuff like phone seem to be upgradeable by the driver by downloading code from www.bmw.com/update

Fingers crossed they can supply a fix that way then you don't have hassle of another dealer visit.

Well better get used to this guys, a typical BMW has more computers on board then most fighter jets.

And lots of computers and software means lots of bugs to be fixed and lots of additions to be made. So, BMW will have to run an update each time the car is brought in for service.

Expect these upgrades to get delivered remote in the (near) future.

Ghueser, thank you once again - you have been the most helpful and gracious pal, my apologies for not being clearer on my post. I shall "walk along" with you ....

1. I requested a s/w update primarily because of 2 reasons - hesitation and bluetooth Office functionablity. The former, attested by fellow forummers that a s/w update did solve that issue; and the latter, a hope that earlier s/w versions might not have that included.

2. No, the Office function wasn't present since I took delivery of the car (post Sept production). Read so much about it and changed my iPhone to a BB Torch just wanting to get that function to work. Otherwise, the iPod in the center console works flawlessly with the USB cable and album art, usb in glove box and all worked well.

3. I have explored all options on the BB Torch and the iDrive and the Office function just isn't there. Perhaps, this is country specific for either the BB or the car.

4. The s/w update did not change anything for the bluetooth - the the "Office " checkbox never appeared in the phone configuration options either.

5. All that needed to be checked, done. Went through it many times but still not getting it.

The local telco's BB technical team is working on an answer as to if there are any difference between BB OS6.0.0.337 (recommended on BMW website) vs my BB OS6.0.0.448. They sounded as if I am talking with a foreign tongue when I delve into the MAP options....

The local BMW dealer's senior tech wasn't able to verify if we should have the Office functionability here

It is human nature to fear for the unknown and resist change, but if one don't try to seek IMPROVEMENT, then one cannot reap the rewards of trying.

I did ask the dealer's senior tech if I could only upgrade certain part of the s/w suite and the answer is NO. The modules to be updated filled 3 printed pages from his computer and it took more than 3 hours to encode.

Completely offside on this topic... Does anybody know how many CPUs/computers an F10 has? And if yes, which are they?

Guys, I don't think it is BMWs fault. Instead, I think it sits with RIM who use different software setups for each of their models.

I have the BB Bold 9780, and it just has been added to BMWs compatibility list.

Nevertheless, it first did not work to synch my office functions, it then worked after a complete reset (battery out, reconnecting), then it ceased to work again, after I had some ghost emails on my blackberry, and today I have gone through the complete reset (battery out, reconnecting), and it works again.

This is sth. you might want to try:

1. Delete the connection to the BB device in the bluetooth menu of the car.
2. Delete connection to the car (5-digit number) in the bluetooth menu of the device.
3. Switch of the Blackberry.
4. Take out the battery of the Blackberry, put it back in.
5. Start it up.
6. Wait until it is fully started, then
7. Establish a new connection in the car and the device, by entering the 0000 key in both menus, and NOW WAIT:

8. You get a message on the Blackberry, saying "BMW XXXXX is trying to establish a bluetooth connection" (with Yes, No, and "don't ask again").

WAIT A FEW SECONDS, UNTIL THIS MESSAGE IS BEING REPLACED BY ANOTHER MESSAGE (something like "do you want to connect to BMW XXXXX"), ESSENTIALLY SAYING THE SAME WITH OTHER WORDS.

Here is a youtube video describing this. Watch from 2.04 onwards !

9. Enter "don't ask again', and then press YES in the message window.

Now, you have to wait for like 15 minutes, until the phonebook etc. is being updated. After a while, you should have the messages available on your iDrive screen...

At least, this works with my config every time.

More than 100 CPU's and at least 100 million lines of computer code

I am very curious on this... do you have any details on this? Are there any site that has some detailed information on this?

I read it in a research paper at a transportation conference. There was a discussion on "hacking computers in cars".

Hmmm beginning to think I should cancel my software update. The DAB bug might have to wait until BMW revise the new software to fix this new bug they've managed to introduce.

Anyone with this logged it with their dealer and got them to open a PUMA case with BMW AG?

It does. The caller's detailed ain't shown on the black panel too, thus you cannot pick up that first call with either button.

thanks! sounds even less appealing now then think i'll definitely cancel the recode and wait till the next s/w update pack is released...assuming of course someone has mentioned this to BMW and it's on their TODO list to fix...well not fix but put back how it was before this software level....i'm on the dec2010 build and it works fine for me at the moment. just DAB that's not displaying all it should.

Did a quick check on mobile phone's compatibility here for the F10, the range of mobile phones which were tested to be one way or another compatible with the earlier software version (TX002.005.021 and TX002.005.025) is 89; out of which 50 has some OFFICE functions.

The updated software (TX003.004.031) tested alright with only 15 mobile phones out of which only 5 qualified for some OFFICE functions!! There is no mention of the remaining 74 previously compatible phones, did they suddenly became not compatible or that BMW has been slow in their tests?

When I looked into the RIM BB Torch 9800's firmware requirement, it listed OS6.0.0.337 as being compatible for the earflier F10 software versions and OS6.0.0.358 for TX003.004.031; there is no mention if it is backward compatible with OS6.0.0.337.

When I googled OS6.0.0.358 for Torch 9800, I get results that it is for BB 9700 and worst, a beta!

My BB Torch 9800 came with OS6.0.0.248, it didn't work with my post-sept production combox equipped F10. Upgrading the F10 to TX003.004.031 didn't see it work too. Neither did it work after I have updated the BB Torch 9800 to OS6.0.0.448 (local telco approved firmware version).

So for those whose mobile (including BB Torch 9800) worked with the F10 with the OFFICE functions, you might want to reconsider a software update on your ride!

I also have combox F10, and don't have office function, nor bluetooth audio streaming. maybe some countries don't get those new features even with new hardware?

Hi Losco, I do have bluetooth audio streaming on my BB Torch 9800 and iPhone 3GS. Which mobile do you use?
