Thanks to the group – First BMW Crimson Red 2007 E91 w/ Rubbing Strips (1)

I would like to thank the group for all the information and comments that helped us to select our first BMW and to decide on which options made sense for us. (I know that some of you dislike cross posts but those at both bimmerfest.com and e90post.com have been helpful so this has been posted on both sites.)

We ordered a crimson red 2007 E91 (328xiT) with the premium package, walnut trim, automatic, and sun roof in September an took delivery in late November. No leather as we are vegetarians and sitting on dead cow just seems wrong.

We had the dealer remove the run flat tires and replace them with Michelin Exalto AS. The Exalto’s are not the highest rated performance tires but are very highly rated for traction in rain and it rains a lot in Vancouver. They soften the ride and protect the rims and suspension when I hit potholes and broken pavement. They also carry a mileage warrantee that high performance tires don’t. I put a Canadian Tire 12V compressor w/ goop in the trunk – peace of mind.

I have not seen pictures of the “rubbing strips” on the site so these pictures might answer some questions. These were left in their stock ready-for-paint black to keep the red and black theme going. I like the look of the front, I’m not sure about the rear they look wimpy, but they do protect the paint from idiots that parallel park by brail. If they are painted to match the car I think they would pretty much disappear. The mud flaps are effective in keeping road dirt off of the paint. I replaced the tail lights with black lines as I very much disliked the white strips and turn signals really should be amber. I also replaced the stock aluminum shifter with a walnut one to match the trim. I think that this should be a part of the interior trim package as the interior looks incomplete with walnut trim and the stock aluminum shifter. You can’t see them in the pictures but the valve caps are BMW rondos.

Break-in was by the book as we usually keep our cars for 10 years plus. It was probably unnecessary but I changed the oil and filter at 500 kM at my own cost. If there is anything left in the engine from the manufacturing it should be in the filter by then – old school.

Thanks to all for the help.

Actually, I really like that! The red needs something to break up the color, and that really does the trick.

+1

I very much agree. It looks sportier- not ricer/look-at-me sporty, but sort of rugged sporty.

So here is the thing, as much as i love BMW, I just cant seem to like the touring version of it. I think if i was to purchase a e91(touring), i would have to go with Audi a4 avant. The audi a4 avant just looks so much nicer and bublier( not sure if thats a word) LOL, but i hope you guys understand what i am trying to say.

The A4 definitely does not drive better, though. It's feels very nose-heavy, especially in corners.

Congrats on the T! I adore mine...I just used it last night to bring home a load of tile and grout from a tile store. I LOVE the flexibility of the wagon.

I was just commenting about the way it looks, not the way it drives. I am sure it drives amazing, but i just cant seem to like it. I love how the coupe looks and how the sedan looks but the touring version just doesn't do it for me. Maybe some blacklines, to make that rear look a little better. I dont know. Notice this is just my personal taste, i just thought i would share. That is what this forum is all about, to get different opinions and different views from other bmw enthusiast.

I understand. The interior of the Audi is nicer, as well. When I was buying, I cross-shopped both and obviously ended up with the bimmer.

IMO, the touring eliminates the awkwardness around the rear that the other 3-series models have. I do like the coupe quite a bit, but the sedan doesn't do anything for me. But, then again, every car I've ever owned has been either a hatch, wagon or coupe.

Iceburg,
The "rubbing strips" are BMW after market items. They glue on.

I do love how BMW creates a tough fast looking Wagon. Not an Easy task but it's pretty damn cool.

Unexpected in that red as well.

Nice.

those strips dont look as bad as I though. Did you ditch the leather steering wheel for a full wood one?

Good to see another wagon and the red is cool. The blacklines are a great addition on the red to differentiate the taillights from the bod. Rub strips look fine but I wish there was some more side protection on all the E90's. Ding risk is high.
