RDS on iDrive

Received an email yesterday from Customer Relations at BMW USA saying:-

"The RDS feature is now currently available for your vehicle. Please contact your local BMW center to have the appropriate update performed which will allow for this feature."

I'm sorry but what is RDS???

Radio Data System (or something like that).

Basically, stations transmit text information on a sideband and your radio displays it. It can be anything from station call leters, to song name, artist etc.

They can also transmit "genre" information about the station. Don't think that aspect works too well in the US, but in Europe you can scan for stations based on genre.

Oh yeah, it also allows for stations to alert you to traffic information.

did you file a complaint or something with BMW NA? I have not heard/received anything from them about this deal...
