Hey,

My local shop is talking me into buying some 5-50 Gulf oil for my car, it would be about 115$ cdn for 7liters ...

Does it worth it? Buddy keeps on sayin it is crazy good oil !!

What are you guys thinking?
I drive an 325xi plannin on doing the 3stage manifold conversion soon .

I'm using 5-50W on my 335 with heavy mods and so far so good with the oil, but not sure if it works well on the 325.

$115 to change it, or for the oil itself? Wal Mart sells Mobil 1 for $24.50 per 5 quarts. I just keep the empties from when I was given a regular case of Mobil 1, if I have to measure beyond or below 5 qts. I think someone said Mobil 1 is no good and there is some difference between real Mobil 1 and what you get for $24.50 at Wal Mart, but I don't worry about it.

115$ for the oil itself. No filter with.

Just wondering if anyone has used Gulf before and if so what are the + or - of using 5-50 during the summer !

Seems high considering what the BMW oil sells for at the dealers.

Bearing clearences. Engines are designed with specific oil viscosity requirements. 50 weight oil may not lubricate the internal parts of the engine properly.

BMW oil specification and viscosity requirements should be followed for warranty protection and best engine operation.

Oil is a religion for many people and results in foolish and expensive subjective decisions.
Wasn't there somebody who created a oil based on Kung PAO chicken and maple syrup that worked well in our cars. Probably better that this particular Gulf oil.

Why do clueless people want to experiment with different oils? They can't tell the difference in he oils and BMW has done all the research for them.
