Just a lap in SOW...

I went to the eXtremeSpeed event this past Friday at SOW (CW direction), and recorded my personal best lap of 1:30.738 in the E92. My car is all stock except for the tires. I'm on Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, 235/40 front, 255/35 rear. The tires have roughly 8k miles on. Not too shabby for a stock 335i.

Here's the video.

Thanks for sharing! I head down to LA pretty often and was always interested in checking out SW. Very cool to see the track. Lots of quick turns like everyone says

That's a quick time for a tire swap. I'm curious how the S4 would compare?

I haven't driven the S4 on SOW in CW direction yet, however my bet is on the S4. The S4 is already 2 for 2. First one being at AAA Speedway back in 2009 when I took both cars out on the track on the same day. The S4 was nearly 3 seconds quicker than the 335i. The second one was at SOW in CCW direction, however they were done on two different dates. The 335i did a 1:32.042, however it was a warmer day. On a cooler day like last Friday, I think I can get down to 1:30ish. The S4 did a 1:27.923 earlier this year.

335i on SOW (CCW), 1:32.042

S4 on SOW (CCW), 1:27.923

Well there it is, the S4 is clearly faster out of the box. Nice looking laps. Other than some initial turn-in understeer, the S4 seems to be a drama-free, well-planted platform. The traction advantage coming out of the turns is clear, as I can hear you on full throttle much earlier than with the 335i. Once/if you get camber and more tire on the BMW, it'll give the S4 a run. I can tell you on my car (135i), it made a huge difference in the car's character and performance ability.
