Can we find a shop that will acomodate a bunch of us? I have a 135 and 335 that I'd like to get done... but want to make sure it's bled properly (not with a foot) afterwards, so leaning toward shop. Maybe a "group buy" type group install somewhere central western burbs? Think Oak Brook-ish but really anywhere in region. Anyone can get a hookup?

CDV

The CDV is probably one of the easiest installs anyone can do on a bmw... well besides the kidney grille replace. ha. I am in western suburbs as well. I have a nice garage and tools to make it happen. pm me.

It's fairly straight forward install. Since my car is a lease I installed a modded one and didn't delete it. I actually didn't need to bleed the clutch pedal. I started up the car and pumped the pedal and few times and felt just fine and haven't had any issues after the install yet.

didn't delete it? do you mean didn't bleed it? or didn't just take the valve off and attach directly to the clutch slave. just confirming.

These comments are precisely the reasons I want to use a proper shop. Yes you can pinch the line to keep dribble to a minimum (and risk damaging it now, or weakening it to when the fluid is hot and bursting later), yes you can pump the pedal and hope the bubbles all go up to the reservoir, yes you can properly manual bleed by pumping pedal and releasing fluid until bubbles stop.

That is all nonsense. The clutch hydraulics are responsible for over $10,000 of stuff. Not to mention your safety. I'd rather put a proper power bleeder on it and since I don't have one, I defer to finding a shop that does. So back to original question, any shops that wanna have a group install?

P.S. and if one does not have a lift and good offset wrenches to get to the bleed nipple, this install is a bear. Ramps are meh, jack stands even worse.

I didn't delete the CDV or bled the clutch pedal. I just replaced the stock CDV for a BMS CDV. Just punching out the stock one will improve the clutch engagement imo. Before I installed the BMS CDV I was having issues at the track with 2nd to 3rd gears with JB4 on Map 7.

Only when I was at the track cause the clutch couldn't keep up with my quick shifting. On the street the car is fine cause it will just spin the tires and gets less traction. The first run I did was on Map 2 and I granny shifted the car and it was fine at the first. It still chirped the tires going into 2nd and kicked the car sideways a little. When I did my run on Map 7 I launched it little harder and shifted faster and by the time I went for 3rd the clutch didn't engage fast enough so it cause the clutch to slip and glaze it.

Peeti, you make valid points, but does anyone buy things to work on themselves as a hobby anymore? The bmw mechanics read the same books and watch the same videos. they have a book at their station they look through to do any work... some remember for the next time. Some go back to it every time for reference. The only difference is the bmw mechanics do it more often. It seriously takes 20 mins to do the mod. the rubber nipple can be removed with a pair of pliers. If you need help Goose and I did ours this weekend. no problems.

I did mine on some ramps just fine. I'm kinda new around the 1 series/BMW's in general still but have good knowledge working on cars in general as long as I had a idea when needs to be done to execute the task.

I'm all for shadetree work, but I no longer have a tree. Am a condo dweller now so no place to keep proper tools, let alone ramps etc. Plus to do this right, I'd want a bleeder so add more expense to something I don't really need long-term. etc etc etc.
